Please don't compare Christian Death to the Sisters of Mercy; there just not in the same league

As for the Madonna 'comparison'. Your right, The Sisters could never ever come close to what Madonna has achieved, so your maybe your right on that point.

What you failed to understand was not so much a musical or 'artistic merit' comparison, but that of a 'live' context.

When Madonna played she limited her show to 'newer' stuff when everyone had worked many hard hours, paid good money etc..and got a show they never expected, and where sadly dissapointed. The second time around it was what the fans really wanted to hear. Classic hits .And lots of them

For many, myself included. The Sisters of Mercy as a unit ended that night at the Royal Albert Hall - and the look on many of the sad faces outside seemed to agtree. What has occured since has merely been 'Andrew Eldricth featuring assorted friends and session muscians' . To me when the core of a band goes - so does the romance and real unity of that band.

When Japan broke up Sylvian didn't adopt a NEW Japan, he brushed himself down and started off a new. As a solo artist. This is what I believe Eldritch should of done at that time,instead of 'resting on the laurels of former glories'. The was the perfect time to 'let sleeping dogs die' and move on.

As for a Sisters re-union. Never going to happen, we all know that, it's a pipe dream for us older fans. But unless you saw the classic line-up live, you'll never know what you really missed. (sounds arrogant and maybe a little cliquey - but it's the only way I could explain it). But it would be nice to see it all one more time. Much the way fans of Motorhead would love to see Fast Eddie and Phil Taylor one more time or Pink Floyd for the even older ones out there.

It's a personal thing with me, once a band implodes - leave it and move on. The Ramones would of never been the Ramones if it had been Joey and three journey men behind him when Dee Dee and Johnny died.

Oddly enough, I seem to remember going to clubs and parties where both Sissies and CD songs got played.
Thank God no Madonna track was ever heard at these events.

15-20 years ago lots of people used to say they would die to see the Velvet Underground. And when they came back together in 93 the general consensus was that the shows were plain boring. Was is the band or were expectations much too high ?
Frankly, last year's Pink Floyd reunion was nice, but musically no better than the 88 or 94 tours.

Nah The Pink Floyd at Live 8 was something very, very special.
And the sound was very different with Roger's bass and vox, trust me, I'm an olde phart!

The Division Bell - Earl's Court 1990something the night before the seats collapsed. TDSOTM in whole but no RW, still the opener was Astronomy Domine and for 'stadium rock' which I am not a fan of, it was a wonderful gig. I'd also like to say thanks to the two guys I sat next to and burgled their high quality spliff off, it really made the night!

I guess Björn from ABBA put it right, after being constantly hassled about a reunion: "It would never be the same like in the fantasy of the fans. They would just be disappointed."

Same thing would happen with a TSOM reunion in the original lineup. They changed - we changed. God, I'm not 15 anymore. And neither are you Ramone. It would just be the desperate effort of a nostalgia act to gain back the fans they've lost at the last tour.

I seem to remember a band called Rain Tree Crows were Japan reformed and failed.Dave Gilmour once said he believed he would have had very little success if he'd dropped the Pink Floyd name, I believe Axl wouldn't have generated the same interest without the Guns'n'Roses name.Velvet Revolver played Glasgow 3 times in the last couple of years working their way from 1500+ capacity venues to the SECC, the Slash and Duff names were not enough of a draw for large crowds. If Eldritch dropped The Sisters name, started a new band or solo project I'm sure he would have real trouble filling the venues he's been playing recently. He's still working hard (relatively) in keeping The Sisters name alive,why would he scrap it all for obscurity ? He also seems to be enjoying playing live more now than he ever did. It's a means to an end.

David Sylvian would be nothing without Robert Fripp, hardly a solo artist.Mind you ,Bowie would have been nothing without Fripp either so maybe there's method in his madness.
