For me the goth rock 'super' albums are:

First and Last and Always - The Sisters of Mercy :von:

The Nephilim - Fields of the Nephilim

Gods own Medicine - The MissionUK 8)

Adrenaline box set (including adrenaline, early indie stuff and epictome ep) - Rosetta Stone

Psycho Magnet - London After Midnight

Star Industry - Velvet

All these albums make want to cack my pants, they are why I think goth its the business.

Other STONKING albums include pretty hate machine by NIN, the smell of rain by Mortiis, 7 by Apop and the ever excellent Empires by VNV Nation.

hmm :urff: not sure if I'm really into goth. Don't think so :?: . Anyway what blew me away together with the sisters in the 80's (FALAA, temple, alice, reptile house) was (still like it :D )

cure : lovecats, the walk, catepillar, IN CONCERT
bauhaus
neon judgement
TC matic (Arno still) 8)
Fad Gadget
some of the red zebra stuff (can't live in this living room, and the unforgettable polar club)
a lot of the 80's belgian stuff which was quite good I think
U2 :innocent:
some sniff of killing joke

almost forgot : early days of siouxsie of course :notworthy: :notworthy:
I'm still cool with it :von:

Erm... No need. Of course CD's first effort was very seminal and all, but it's a very bad album nonetheless. The lyrics are just ridiculously childish. They did make some decent records (Catastrophe ballet, Atrocities...), but some others are just embarassingly bad. :urff:

Well, it is a 16 year old going for pure shock value, isn't it? "Let's upset my parents! With discipline! Let's mess up my bedroom! Because I can!" More teen angst as the good Barman would say.

Catastrophe Ballet, on the other hand, is pure sleek gorgeousness. Likewise Atrocities (good to see someone else recognising the one truly decent Valor-era LP!) and some bits of Ashes.

I think it also owes a great deal to that whatsizname guy who later formed Mephisto Walz. In my angry years I also liked the "Sex and Drugs and Jesus Christ" album. But then again, most dark people did. :innocent: :von:

Barry Galvin, I think. They went down the tubes after he left.

A bit of a goth hit when it came out. Waaaaaaaaay over the top if you ask me. :von:

All the albums after this one got only worse and worse anyway. :innocent:

Over the top?
Goth?
Any good?
f**k yes.

So if it's all that good, maybe I should go find some black plastic and listen to them.

If it's possible for lamentable turdwalloping cack to get any worse. :D

Catastrophe Ballet is the one everybody needs to listen to. Plus it makes a great name for a pub quiz team.

If you can get to hear any of these songs, I totally recommend them:

Awake At The Wall
Sleepwalk
The Drowning
The Blue Hour
As Evening Falls
Androgynous Noise Hand Permeates
Electra Descending
C*rv*x Couch
This Glass House
The Fleeing Somnambulist

So to put it simply : Catastrophe ballet (preferably the naked Gitane Demone cover :innocent: ), Ashes, Atrocities. Did I miss any ?

I'm weak and I kinda like the Iron mask and Iconologia.
Shadow project has its moments too. Don't forget I'm French and I don't pay much attention to the lyrics.
