Most EBM is abject bollocks. If I wanted rave I'd go to a rave and not a goth night. And you can stick your glow-sticks,wooly wigs, goggles and spandex up your arse.Cyber goths are wankers who are too old/fat/frightened to get into proper techno.
And as for all those bands that sound like Depeche mode?FFFS!!!!
EBM IS DEAD,FACT! And good bloody riddance,I say!!!!
Thanks for listening.None of this applies to Covenant,VNV nation,XPQ21 or Front 242 who make exceptionally fine music
A man after my own heart.
I'm not even that keen on Covenant or VNV, and I don't even know who XPQ21 are.
Although I would like a copy of the "Welcome To Paradise / Headhunter" 12-inch to be taken into consideration

ebm = dodgy european goth wannabees trying to sound like erasure
these so-called modern ebm bands should be ashamed of themselves - they've hi-jacked a term once used to describe a collection of electronic bands & musicians who were pioneers in their field, pushing boundaries and conventions of what "pop" and "rock" music should be, how it should sound, and how it should be structured
these modern ebm kiddies have taken an idea and watered it down and turned it into a genre of music thats so derivative and self-referential that the majority of bands are indistinguishable from each other
utter nonsense
they way i see it, if you're going to listen to techno, at least make it
good techno, made by people who understand the medium in which they are working, and not this pompous sub-disco s**t made by dodgy euro-goths who have listened to too much erasure
am i a music snob? hell yes

Harsh but true.
Well, maybe not entirely, but still... And just like goth has its teen velvet-clad pseudo vampires (among others), EBM has its clown too (you could argue that every genre has them, but not to the same degree). The difference being that while goths spend their time looking all romantic and/or intense, electro-heads on the other hand try very hard to look real tough. But they're laughable all the same.
Note : only talking from own experience, with some examples in mind, maybe not representative, blah blah blah...

I think some people mistake Electronic Body Music for this modern, futurepop- hellectro - electro/industrial goth dance bollocks.
EBM did not die, it merely did not renovate after Front 242... the old bands still do it with verve, the new batch are just pish (apart from Suicide Commando, sorry, I have a real weak spot for Johan Van Roy
)

Not entirely. I don't know about the new wave of EBM anyway (let's say what happened over the last ten years). I don't really remember using the term EBM anyway. EBM was quite narrow, we prefered the terms "electro" or sometimes "dark techno".
It wasn't just the music I had a problem with (but TBH sometimes it
was), it was also the
fans. Plastic noise experience was okay for instance, but the fans...

true, even about the Suicide Commando bit.
its a shame there are so few EBM bands left, this futurepop stuff is growing bigger and bigger and attracting the wrong kind of people
basicly nothing wrong with that but those people have no ties with the eloctro history. I think EBM isn't dead yet but it won't be long before it will be. ...

Do you have to put your Technics on the floor because your desk is missing then?

That's from HL3 2005 at Friday Flock.
Mr Blast was expecting to see lots of dusky buttressed goth maidens, instead he got exhibit A!

Front 242 and Skinny Puppy are the main ones for me, although I wouldn't really classify Skinny Puppy as EBM.
Gotta love 242 though. Official Version, anyone? Beautiful beautiful LP.
