Depressed Merde were at their finest from Black Celebration through Violator I think.
Ultra has some great moments, but there's a sound on some of the tracks which I don't like, which they went even further into on Exciter. Something kind of chilled out and... warm. All their imitators seem to have gone a similar way. I like my electronic sounds served at a sub zero temperature, with the sharp corners left on.
