Last night I was treated to a live version of Bedsitter - Soft Cell courtesy of Quiffia Phones...LOL
Thanks hunn, much appreciated (not by the rest of my pub team though...in the middle of a particularly tricky section) It sounded like everyone was having a fantastic timne...more lkike a HUGE Karaoke (sp?) night...bet Big Clive was giving it all he's got (which is a lot by any standards!)

indeed i did.
which was quite surprising... i was all geared up for a quiet night in front of the fire, but a friend said she had a spare ticket to see soft cell at leeds poly
i'd completely forgotten all about it!
so off i went.. and jolly nice it was too!
scardwell was there (surprise surprise! are there ANY gigs than man doesnt go to?!!?
)
highlights of the set for me were "mr self destruct" (years before trent stole the title), "youth", "torch" and "soul inside".
actually, they did quite a few songs from "this last night in sodom", which is a fave album of mine so i was happy.
both of the guys were on fine form - dave ball even cracked a smile once or twice, and marc was leaping around like a possessed munchkin!
and marc even donned a guitar for a couple of numbers, though he managed to break a string and failed miserably to point this out to the roadies despite numerous pained looks, pointing at the guitar and waving the broken string around...
you just can't get the staff can you?
they've still got all the energy, showmanship and power they always had, and there new stuff is just as utterly bastard groovy as their old stuff. tres cool
and for me it was even better because of the impromptu nature of it all!
ps. and yes, big clive was belting all the hits out - in fact, i strongly suspect that he actually recorded the gig! a fan? shirley not!

Aye good gig last night (the second half in particular) and well worth the trip over from York. Bumping into Quiffy and his lovely companion (Helen?) was a welcome surprise as well. Sorry I didn't get time to say "bye bye" at the end - I had to rush off to get the 11:14pm train...
That "Say Hello Wave Goodbye" finale with everyone singing was just awesome!

Went to see Low play last night at the Union Chapel, a totally amazing gig. The sound was brilliant, as the venue is an old church, but not in the typical cross layout, this was more circular and the band weren't elevated above the audience. The old seats are still in place and this can make moving about a problem...but you did get to sit in a church listen to good music and drink gin.

HHHmmmnnnn
last night was a girl's night out in honour of my mate Kaz...first time out since the birth of the bump. So basically it was just another excuse for us to 'wet the baby's head'
Anyway.....what I'm basically saying is Lincoln on a Friday night is crap....ended up in a poxy little shed called 'Oh Boy's' which is a Rock'n'Roll tribute bar........with oooh at least 12 of us in there...and two sad old men at the bar. No vodka and only Captin Morgan's rum.....things were not good!
Tonight promises to be better - Nottingham Rescue Rooms - Echoboy and good company.

Friday:despite the quadruple mega-dose of the Sisters:Lucretia/Alice/Body And Soul and Gimme Shelter, I had a lackluster time at a club that I've previously vowed I'd never frequent on that particular night for that very reason. It's usually never more than just a lukewarm evening musically and the crowd absolutely sux for most of them are stoic, gawking imbeciles taking up way too much space on the dancefloor in order to watch whatever public S&M, chains/whips, spanking session is going on in the room I usually hang out in. Never again.
Saturday:The Batcave(Downtime, NYC). Much better. I've been having far more fun at this joint lately. Only Sisters tune I stumbled across in mid-spin was "More" when I decided to check out what was happening on the main floor. Otherwise I usually confine myself to a far smaller backroom with an obscure gothic/synthpop/new wave agenda:
Mexican Moon[Concrete Blonde]
Miss Amanda Jones[March Violets]
Brilliant Mind[Furniture]
Sleepwalking On A Highwire[Siouxsie And The Banshees]
Little Bird[Lene Lovich]

My 10 yr old daughter hit a home run on Sat night bringing two players in.
But the best part was she played catcher and got the little witch who called her a fuk'n bitchat school out on her way to home base by jumping up catching the ball and runnig her arse down.
Victory is sweet.

I've just read a hilarious article on the Warlocks in Bang Magazine- they are the Spinal Tap of the 'new rock' scene.
I hope they were being ironic.

Got my fill on some classic "punk" and "deathrock" this evening:
Black Planet[Sisters Of Mercy]
Roboflavin-Flavored, Non-Carbonated, Polyunsatured Blood[45 Grave]
Human Fly[The Cramps]
We Hunger[Siouxsie And The Banshees]
I Walk The Line[Alien Sex Fiend]
Release the Bats[The Birthday Party]
Swamp Thing[Chameleons]
Cicely[Cocteau Twins]
There was some Gun Club and The Virgin Prunes in there as well but the titles escape me at the mo'.

I had a bloody good night on Thursday, went to see the Buzzcocks and then had a tequila sunrise session whereby I drank 2 great big men under the table. I am now into the second day of the hangover from hell. Tequila is baaaaaaaaaad.
Hi everyone, just thought I'd pop over for a bit of sanity!
