Hell yeah. And all other kinds of discrimination, while they're at it.

i have no idea about uk laws so i can't really take part in the poll, but actually i think people should have the right to their opinions. i don't like the idea of forced tolerance.
And yes, homosexuality is promoted, has been for a few decades, heavily on media. Go figure.
And, btw, christianity is viled in the media. i'd like to see just one tv show where rabbis are made into hypocrites..

Well, while I agree with you on the general principle of the forced tolerance bit, it's an unfortunate truth that there are both nice and nasty people in the world, and while some of us may not like the answers, sadly they're the only ones we have right now. It would be great if we could have a world where legislation against discrimination was not necessary, but we don't and that's the hard truth of it, so we've got to make do with the best we can get. It's certainly a far far lesser evil than letting the nasty types run riot.
As for the rest of your statement, not only is it factually incorrect, but it's very thin ice to go treading on.

What scares me, is that 4 votes go to - No, in fact laws should be made to encourage discrimination against gay people!
Discrimination within itself is a bad thing. Sexual orientation is your own right that you determine.
If all laws could put religious stand-points aside, it would be interesting to see the Pope begging people to use condoms with HIV being around to mention but one example.

He does actually have a bit of a point. You can take pretty much any pot-shot you like at Christianity in the media, because you know the most you're going to get in return is Rowan Williams being mildly upset, and a few letters in The Times.
Take the same liberties with Judaism and you're instantly equated with a Nazi, and the Chief Rabbi recounts every bad thing that happened in Jewish history(leaving out the murdering Jesus bit, though). And as for Islam, well, we saw what happened when about seven cartoons were published in Denmark.People ended up being murdered over it, and Denmark is now a major terrorist target.
He's as wrong as custard cockroaches about homosexuality though. A de-ballsed form of it is promoted, limp little fairies like Julian Clary, John Ingman, Will and Grace and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Non-sexual ,non-threatening and comical. Programmes that tried to show homosexuality as it is like Queer as Folk ended up reviled in the media and given graveyard-shift timeslots.

It´s way more than that. You never chose to feel for a man, it happened to you all by itself. Like it happened to me that those two dents growing under my classmate´s shirt (And her eyes) gave me a dent somewhere else.
Your sexual orientation is part of your nature, you don´t choose it.
That is the outcome of various investigations on that topic.
The brains of men and women work in different ways: When given some input, a mans brain will react by the activation of specific brainareas while a female brain wil react with many more brainareas.
Investigators met a few exceptions to that rule who majorly turned out to be gay.
Human
nature. Can the monotheistic cults handle it?

The difference between Christianity on the one hand, and Judaism and Islam on the other hand is pretty simple : Christians are now used to being laughed at, while Jews and Muslims still aren't. No need to look any further IMO.
Plus there's a lot of Jews and Muslims who can take the mockery, just like Christians sometimes get fed up with being so constantly ridiculed. It's only the extremist bastards that complain, but they do make a lot of noise.

Not so simple big guy : recent researches show that the way your brain works is largely influenced by education, not nature.
In our societies, boys and girls don't get the same education, and as a result their brains "learn" to respond differently. Different patterns of education activate different parts of the brain, which at some point becomes an image of your upbringing.
After that, the differences you can see when two differently-trained brains receive the same kind of impulse also depend on the kind of information and inputs these particular people have been subjected to so far, and not just on whether they're male or female.
And for the record, I'm not gay but I do have feminist tendencies.
It doesn't mean there's no difference between men and women. Hormones
do play a role, but not the only one. Education, environment, and social conventions are just as important.

To be fair though, we're living in "Chrstian" countries (albeit very secular ones) - a minority is always going to be rather more sensitive, rightly so probably.

It would be interesting to know if they also included the bisexuality factor when investigating the different brainareas or were those bisexual just thrown in with the gay crowd?
Of course not in answer to your question. Their faith does not allow..

I have to say it shocked me too. couldn't decide if it was a comedy vote by people rubbishing the poll or what.

They should pray it's a comedy vote.

People get their knickers in a twist because you tell them their magic sky-daddy isn't real.
And for some reason some people think that their magic sky-daddy has an obsession with men putting their willies up other men's bottoms. (Interestingly a man putting his willy up a
woman's bottom doesn't seem to faze them so much. I wonder why?

Erm. Anyway, was I going somewhere with this?
Oh. Yes. Voted #1. From the article on the BBC:
Lord Smith wrote:It seems to me, in my simplistic way, that what they (the opponents of the regulations) are arguing for is quite simply the right to discriminate and the right to harass.
Quite.

I abstain from voting, simply because in Belgium laws against discrimination already exist. Gay marriage has also been made legal and gay adoption rights are being worked on, last I heard. What I do have a problem with is the media always portraying gays in much the same way : the male variety as if they're all either transvestites (which is NOT the same as being gay, although gays can be transvestites), or extravagant Julian Clary types with ourtageous outfits, a smart mouth and a feminine streak in their voice and attitude. And lesbians are mostly moustachio'ed fat butch types in flannel. I know many gays who don't fit in that stereotype at all, but of course these people won't be the talk of the town if you show them on tv...

Well, you can sneer, and you might be entirely right to so, but no matter how fantastical their beliefs, that is what they are, and often genuinely and sincerely held. Some people here seem to fervently believe in Sociali
sm for example, despite the rest of the world outright rejecting it. Some people here go into conniptions if you say you believe Eldritch hasn't released a decent song in nearly thirty years. Belief systems always are relative things. How do you decide which ones the right one?
