Seriously, in my constituency, the Labour guy (John Battle) has a majority of 12,810 (down from 14,935 in '01) so it's pretty pointless voting any other way.
Clicky
I can understand that attitude, all these years of Blair and my father would still regard a Tory vote akin to baby-eating or orphanage pyromania!
I take it the good people of Leeds West haven't bothered looking at what Mr Battle is for and against? He's to the right of the average Cameron Tory!

The point you make strikes the target perfectly well:
A modern car will produce highly venomous waste of 1 1/2 times of it´s own mass during production. And as the weight of cars has risen strongly, especially during the recent 20 years, we are talking about a few pounds of poison here!
Not mentioning all the energy needed to melt and process the steel, transport the materials and workers and all that goes into that process.
Converting the older crates to the modern emission standard would be the right thing to do, but there is no lobby working for it.
And unfortunately no one ever mentions the climate shortcommings of paved area where no plants can grow to absorb CO² and the loss of absorbation a lawn poses compared to trees or bushes growing in a garden.
Edited 3rd sentence, so it makes sense. At least a some.
...and the impending EU law on car emissions that will put up retail prices, but wont actually force the car manufacurer to be more environmentally responsible, doh!
It is all the consumers responsibility, thanks!

Since the Road Tax petition has just closed with a stupendous amount of signatures, although this is practically a zombie thread..

"It is necessary to provide for widespread deployment of electronic toll systems in the Member States."
"Member States shall bring into force laws, regulations and administrative provisions necessary to comply with the Directive"
Douglas Alexander keeping very quiet about this, but it's the reason why he won't change his mind, he can't.The Government are bound by what Blair has signed them up to. It also means for any of the other European commentators here, that you'll get the same thing, very soon.
