Be a little bit careful Tidal. Some of us get quite worked up about the downloading issue.

No one will object to you downloading that ultra rare live version of Good Things, but if there is a perfectly decent CD version available, get that. The girls still get SOME royalties.

Strapped for cash? Don't I know it, I'm a student. Your local second hand record shop is likely to have a copy of any sisters album you like a rock bottom prices. Someone supported the girls buy buying it, you can support your local record shop by buying it again

I don't mean to sound funny about this, but people don't realise how much their apathy hurts the music industry. Ok, who gives a f*ck if some major label loses a couple of quid, but it isn't just the big players that get damaged...

ehmm sorry man... if I have a song and I can download it for nada and I have that same song on an album or single which is gonna cost me 20 bucks, there aint actually a choice... If you can give me ANY link to a sisters album/single available on the mainland for less than 5 euros, ill buy it, just because I like the Sisters and buying something instead of downing it is a statement of appreciation.

You should also notice that 98% of all artists do not make records for cash. It's a fine way to live carefree for the rest of you life if you're successful, but really, I've never heard of any band/ singer that started its career to earn a sh*tload of cash- only hear of people that are talented, want to express themselvez by singing, and people like it, they get a career, and yeah- they sell their songs for cash! Also, dont think they'd ever gotten far if they hadnt got a record comp to support em, and ow- THOSE are out for money... maybe if there hadn't been record companies, music would be free

I see the point you are trying to make, but for the most its idealistic and not very true, I'm sorry matey, but think of it this way.

Many bands write music because they love it, but we only get to hear decent recorded easily available music because they get paid.

If the record labels DIDN'T support music we wouldn't have a fraction of what we do.

Example? ANy one heard a studio version of crash and burn recently? I can think of one musician that still writes music for love, but won't release it for money, because he doesn't think that the industry is right for it.

Download what you want. If you're the sort of person who downloads whole albums, well, it's on your own conscience. If, like me, you only download the odd song, which you want, rather than whole albums, which I'd buy if I actually wanted, then I can't see much of a problem.

I have bought floodland recently because I wanted to buy one album to express my appreciation...and hear the songs in line

But it's also a matter of priority; I wanted to hear more Sister's songs after hearing ToL on a youtube movie, and what's the fastest and simplest (and cheapest ) way to hear a lot more : downloading. Buying them would not only take a lot of time, but also alot of investing effort and money in it. (and at that point I wasnt as hooked as Im now)

You might think that's lame and It's not my right to steal people's songs, or that I'm lazy because I don't want to go through the hole purchasement procedure to buy it. It's indeed sad that people will virtually always make the easy choice (downing) if there is such choice, instead of the old way- when there were no sharing programs, but you can't really blame them- there's simply too many upsides compared to the downsides (faraway pain in the conscience for lowering one band's income by a marginal amount). That's my opinion. Crush it if you like to.

Hello all... and sorry -- I didn't mean to start a controversy here.

I just wanted to hook Tidal up with a preview ... and recommend 'Some Girls'. From my point of view -- living in the U.S. -- the official release of the short version is practically non-existant, whilst the long version is easily available... on CD... and much better IMO.

Again I recommend buying 'Some Girls Wander By Mistake'... it's a great compilation and my favorite official CD. The music of the Sisters goes through various phases... but it's all good! Think of Joy Division, early Cure and Siouxsie (all of that post punk 'emo' rock -- not goth rock) and it will grow on you...

P.S.; I bought 'Floodland' and 'Vision Thing' for the third or fourth time last year... then the box set of reissues came out!!!

I'd make the same point too, and it's very very difficult to refute it, but the trouble is that it's still illegal.

True, but the Girls' career has hardly been defined by strict observance of the law of the land. I sympathise with your stance to defend bands' earnings, but one should always try new things, and, as mother always told me, 'f**k tha' police'.

At least that's how I understand it. Never found any difference apart from that.

To be honest it sounds best on my red vinyl 12" copy of ToL.

Exact same, and you can even fire up your favourite CD ripper, rip ToL, then stick it into your favourite wave editor and do the necessary. Result.

But you shouldn't have to, and not everyone has the techies to do it anyway.

Which version is better? Some days I prefer all of the extended glory, and want the song to never end. Other days I feel that it works best as a short sharp shock - get in, do your business, get out, leave 'em stunned.
