Sorry, but I dont accept anyone can have authorship or decide whats appropriate for a illegal bootleg dvd that is not approved by the band, no matter how many hours people put into it,look what happened over the moscow thing cover, a very minor lovers tiff broke out over who should do the cover for that because it was felt they owned copyright on a bootleg, if whoever made the dvd feels they should be the one giving permission for its distribution and if you can/cant make money from reselling it then they should first ask the band if its ok from them to make and copyright the dvd in the first place. I apply this logic to any bands bootleg dvds etc.

Dont get me wrong Im happy for all I can get and dont intend to sell my bootlegs anyway, but I feel if i wanted to do this on ebay and someone told me not to then they would be on dubious moral ground.

Personally I have no problem in buying bootlegs. Pre-internet, I'm sure many of us on here used to buy C60/C90 bootlegs, complete with photocopied covers from record fairs in the 1980's. The only thing that bugs me is when you see something that has clearly come from the weeding section here or on other similar sites, being continually re-listed & sold.
I accept that no one has any kind of claim on these boots, but seeing them sold seems like a diabolical liberty.

Selling them is just someone taking blatant advantage of something that they know can be gotten for free elsewhere (and that they have likely gotten for free from that source). It's money-grabbing at the fans expense, pure and simple.

Never mind the legal issues, I'm sure a lot of bands - if given the choice - would prefer to have something like we have going on (with very strict "no official stuff" rules, and pretty much self-moderating too) rather than having this material crop up in the shops and somebody else who had nothing whatsoever to do with it making money from it.

They can't release it officially, the fans want it, so turning a blind eye to the likes of Trading/Weeding/Sharing seems to make more sense than either (a) pissing off your fans, or (b) letting professional bootleggers get all the money, which likely ends up going back to some organised crime syndicate.

Hell, even the big bad Metallica offer free concert downloads.

Agreed. Consider that some of the recordings on DimeADozen (not the Sisters these days though) come from "sources close to the band" -- in other words bands are (semi-illicitly) giving live recordings away for free and then some cnut comes along and tries to sell this free recording?

Couldn't agree more mark, my comments were aimed purely at un-offical live releases, not bootlegged versions of stuff that is officially available to buy.

i was going to complain about this strictly being a trading thread; but as we're being resonsible children and extolling the virtues of buying official product (remember -it's nice to shake the hand that feeds you once ina while) i'll S.T.F.U......but could the trainspotters try and remember that there is a nice shiny peg to hang our anoraks on in the trading cupboard?

It's not a question of 'copyright law' but of common decency. People who drag law into everything lack decency, imo.

I dunno, adopt whatever position works for you and Ill do the same, im not overly concerned with copyright law, i seem to recall i tried and and helped others to get hold of the moscow material, but I have to say I actually bought a couple of sisters dvds of this trader myself, before I even discovered this forum, so if you got him shutdown you may be stopping none heartlanders getting hold of these shows, which will hardly help spread the word about the sisters, anyway 4 decent sisters dvds for a tenner and a nice cover, Id hardly say anyone was getting ripped off.

Common decency? keep things in perspective its a bleeding bootleg for christsakes.

Also there seems to ba an implication that the bands ok with all bootlegs and turn a blind eye to them, if that was so do you really think the band were ok with the release the dredfull astoria 06 performance and wouldnt have tried to stop it?

Since when is decency "common"? It's actually pretty rare.
