I´m with those who can´t tell here. I really tried to think of the favourites, but simply can´t focus on any songs that deserve an ultimate favourites lable.
There are to many criteria to consider to pick the top ones.

Well, can't include TSOM, as that would make up too much of the list. Probably not in too much of an order:

1. Spear of Destiny - Grapes of Warth - The intrumental at the end of the song is just amazing, and it changed constantly throughout the years. 1984 version with the piano is the best.
2. Theatre of Hate - Anniversery - Kirk Brandon knows how to play the perfect dark guitar chord.
3. Jackson Browne - The Fuse - Another song with an amazing instrumental at the end.
4. Death Cult - Too Young - The tribal sound and the emotion
5. The Cult - Bone Bag - If you've heard the live version from the Lyceum show, you know what I'm talking about.
6. Guns N Roses - Estranged - the live piano solo
7. Nightwish - Gethsemene - yeah, laugh it up
8. Within Temptaion - The Promise - keep laughing
9. Spear of Destiny - Mickey - All of the studio versions suck, but live, this song is amazing
10. Danzig - Sistinas - The best voice in rock

in opposition to HL's common ground that there are too many good songs to mention, I think, there are not enough. Don't get me wrong, there are tons of good songs out there, but just a handful which are truly outstanding and persist time, age, mood, trend etc.

Five outstanding songs

Fields of the Nephilim - Wail of Sumer/And There Will Your Heart Be Also
An incredible song that I never tire of, I definitly want this played at my funeral. It definitly takes you to a higher plane of your mind!

Tiamat - Gaia
Truly one of Tiamats best songs ever off the incredible 'Wildhoney' album.
This song has some very unsual lryrics that stick in your head, great arrangments and two stunning guitar solos, one in the middle and one at the end.

Dimmu Borgir - Broderskapets Ring
A great song with excellent guitar and piano sections.

Fields of the Nephilim - Love Under Will
I find this song to be very evocative and astonishing each time I hear it.
The intro at the start is amazing with the young woman crying and then the keyboards, Tonys bass riff and that super unforgettable riff comes in.

Paradise Lost - Enchantment
One of the best opening tracks of a gothic metal band ever.

Emperor - With Strength I Burn
Very epic song with a stunning spoken word part in the middle of it.

Joy Division - New Dawn Fades
My personal favourite Joy Division songs and it has an awesome riff at the start.

Within Temptation - The Promise
An outstanding song with great structure, its just a pity they went downhill after this.

Anathema - Shrould of Frost
Another real standout song from excellent 'The Silent Enigma' album. Again this has another very poetic spoken word part in the middle followed by amazing riffs and solos.

Amorphis - Summers End
Amazing finish to the excellent 'Tuonela' album.
