I dig it, true - but it's mainly because it's all Greek to me, y'know? I wish I got it, instead... :|

Well, that, too. Still, the sentiment remains the same... *Sigh* :|

I swear that you have posted the exact same reply as I was going to write on dozens of occasions.

I know you dig this sort of stuff, SINnie, so I'll add that the -1 was because without it you'd trip over into needing an extra byte (0x1000000). The max in a three byte word is 16777215 but there are 16777216 combinations if you include 0

wierd :o

i wonder if thats a known vulnerability :o

i'll check on the phpbb sites about it...

on the plus side i've deleted the dubious account, refreshed all post counts and regenerated the stats - all all is back to normal  :notworthy:

that is very odd though.

Nothing like a good dump... ;D

I'm worried that we only get a three-byte INT value for our postcount.

I mean, what happens when James makes his 16777216th post? ;D

He takes off into cyberspace and returns a couple of jiffies later as an annoying 8-bit cluster.

I only feel safe laughing at that because I know his bark is worse than his byte.

My connection's running reaaallly slow right now. Is it possible to crack a joke so bad it actually degrades the performance of the entire internet?

It has been slow for me as well. Yesterday it kept freezing on me, from two different places where I logged on. Did anyone else have that problem? I blame the high post spammer and James.

There are some numbers, from coding or rendering, that you just recognise - 255, 65536 and this one is another. Sometimes it's a filled 8 bit or 16 bit binary word, or maybe a buffer size in a certain language. I'd no idea what 16777215 was but knew it was something I'd used or seen before. I just converted it back to hex and realised why it was a known number....256 x 256 x 256 - 1
This smells like a database error (MySQL?)

From http://www.xnote.com/howto/mysql_field_types.html:

MEDIUMINT
A medium-size integer
The signed range is –8388608 to 8388607. The unsigned range is 0 to 16777215

Of course I could be totally wrong but a 3-byte sized integer is somewhat unusual otherwise.

Same here.

First thing I thought was "this is a medium size integer if I ever saw one"
