Lyrics, Arms

Got any interesting thoughts on a set of lyrics? Any that don't involve the word "indeed"? Find yourself struggling to decipher all those obtuse references Von makes? Read "1959 And All That" and still no clearer? Nope, us neither. Postcards found lying in a skip around the back of the Chemists can be found here... Don't say you weren't warned.

Now, what's the lens, and why Mercedes Benz, and what underclasses? :?

Not so simple. I have been married for nearly 25 years. I went to the show with my daughter and a bunch of her friends, hence "Throw away the underclasses." Meaning the college students I was with. Later on some of them who were 21, came to the bar, and we saw him there...
The first part of the song, he is talking about himself. Life in a parallax is a distorted image, he see's everything from the vantage point of being on stage, so he did not notice my wedding ring 'til later at the bar. Life through a lens is obvious, not just sunglasses but also the media. Mercedes Benz is just the fact he is always going somewhere, but does live in Germany...For all I know, he may have a Mercedes Benz, but I think it is most likely a metaphor. So you see, "All signs say stay away," meaning the people I was with, and he saw my ring when I went to the bar to order drinks. He came quite close to me, but I "Froze senseless." It was one of the most humiliating moments of my life; and he writes a song about it...Just my luck.

Nor me.

As I said in the other thread, wraith and alcohol are completely different meanings of the word "spirit" and AE wouldn't invent such a contrived term for a bar. And if you just listen to the song, he clearly isn't singing "Over the wisdom feel is real" (which doesn't make any sense anyway).

Besides, while he may well have met you in Portland, how does that make you so certain of the lyrics? Has he kept in touch?

Having said all that, I can see how such an interpretation of the song would work.

If you have any idea what a "Wraith" is, a bar makes perfect sense, not just referring to liquor (I can't believe I have to explain every little thing) but the type of people in them. People who frequent bars especially, I might add in Portland, as most of them are also strip joints, are usually lost souls, and a wraith is something trapped between life and the spirit world.

Who can begin conventional amiability the first thing in the morning?

Buying it or not, I think what blklce says makes a lot more sense than anything going on in the other thread.

This thread is a lot more entertaining is well :)

Buying or not, I agree that it does and it is, but also something else occurred to me:
Some of the attempts to decipher the meanings of lyrics, just as those "andrew without glasses'' threads etc., are a delicate business and we should handle it with care. Sometimes it's better not to try to dismantle a hologram just to satisfy one's own curiosity about what it's made of.

That said, in my opinion it would be much safer for everybody if all the lyrics were just present at the official site. WithOUT explanations, just plain lyrics, and it would be up for anybody to decide on their own whether a song is about war or love.
But trying to transcribe what is possible to hear on bootleg recordings AND attach interpretations to it.... No, that's just plain wrong.

Actually, maybe I should post it in the other thread.

Edit:
Just realised what's in my sig line. :) :notworthy:

And honestly asking blkIce about what it was about, I only did so because I was sure it was a joke.

Okay? :?

No need to apologize, emma - my annoyance has nothing to do with you. My tolerance for idiocy just happens to be at an all-time low. :von:

I was just thinking aloud.
Well either it's true or not, one thing I know is that I bet blklce's inbox is full by now.
Another thing I know is that if it's true, it's good to know that my intuition didn't lie to me when I first heard it in Hamburg and thought it's a love song that has nothing to do with Obama. ;D

I can only agree, and that's why I like this thread better even if it's pure fiction. If it's not fiction it is indeed a delicate matter and none of our business.

And if this thread died at this point, it would be great because it still hasn't revealed anything, and this is the way it should remain, in my opinion.
I think this is my last post about it, I just would like to make my point clear before I leave this thread. (Gotta be careful with words now, because I really wouldn't like to hurt anybody's feelings.)
I have no idea who you are, blklce - a real person or an old user trying to tease others with stupid jokes... However, the lyrics posted in this thread seem more accurate than the attempts in the other one, although English is not my first language so I know nothing really. Anyway, they seemed accurate and it seemed like somebody had some interesting info to share, so I was the first to ask for details (understandable, I hope). Then on and....
Everybody tends to measure others with his/her own measure, and probably acting according to this rule, I figured out that if Mr AE met me at a bar and then wrote a song about me and I knew it, I would never.ever.ever.in.my.life tell anybody about it, not even my dog, not even myself in the mirror, let alone people in this forum, much as I love y'all. :) Which is why I thought it was fiction, and obviously I still do think so.
But if it wasn't, I'm thankful for the answers to my questions. They were obviously as much a joke as the answers that I got. :)
I hope nobody took any of my comments amiss, and I'm out of here. :D

Then why post it publicly and offer to give an explanation? :?

As far as I can tell, all of the lines posted have appeared in the other thread. The "wraith room" stuff isn't original either. Could easily be a work of bricolage :von:

True, true, true - and they appeared there quite some time ago...

And as for the, ahem, 'justification' for 'wraith' - this from a man who has repeatedly stated that he can only really write in bars?

Just assume an eyeroll with any post I make here...

So it's a song about a 50 year old man who tries to hook up a mid-30ies woman, but he failes because she's married...

..well, errr, OK!

(At least it's something different from the usual charts-stuff)
There have been better plans
But none that I could ever understand...
