With reference to the original question about their falling out, the issue (for us) isn't so much whether or not she did play but the fact that Eldritch publicly said that she didn't. I can't remember the exact quote or where to find it (although it is here on the forum in one of the other "why did they fall out?" threads, where I've said most of this before) but it's something along the lines of her having a cheek moaning about not getting an album credit when she never lifted her bass unless there was a camera about. But he has also said that she was only hired for the look, which makes his comment a bit churlish. And why would someone so intent on avoiding the goth label hire Elvira Mistress of Darkness for her look?

The fact that she could play bass is not in doubt. There's plenty of live footage of her playing with other bands. And at least some of the bass on Floodland sounds too real to have been a 1987 synth so someone must have played. Perhaps more to the point, she presumably wasn't brought into The Sisterhood for the image so it seems likely that she played on that.

I know she can play but a lot of the bass on Floodlands sounds sampled to me. Its certainly not the bass sound I've heard in the very limited Gun Club stuff I've heard.

If I ever ran into Steinman, I'd ask him. He should have there at the time, he was the co producer. I doubt there was bad blood between Jim and Patricia, so he'd be honest about it. I don't trust Eldritch on this one, I think there's just something more to the story that neither want to admit to. But I watch TMZ a lot, so I may just be drama obsessed.

I learnt the bassline to Lucretia from watching the Montreux fest performance over and over,
whilst keeping an eye on her fretwork.

That was her, wasn't it? Plus she definitely got a credit on the LP, so no quibbles there.

Hard to know on the Sisters though; I sure wouldn't put it past Eldritch to have redone any bass parts she may have played as part of his endless quest for perfection.

History has shown us that Von can't work with anyone for more then a couple of years so it's probably more of him an less of her.

I'm a vegetarian, not a big fan of meat .

I forgot about Danielle Dax, I thought she was kind of hot in the 80's. I don't know what she looks like now, may be for the best.

Actually she plays it wrong on this one, as I've said in some other thread. The bassline goes constant but she makes a pause both times when che plays E.

We (Rosetta Stone) played a couple of shows with Dax after she'd toured with the Sisters in the USA, back in the early 90's. She ( and her manager) were a major pain in the ass. We had a huge turn out in Bradford on the first night and could honestly say we blew her away. The second night in Nottingham (Rock City) their manager complained that we'd been 'too loud' the night before and cried to Rock City's manager / Promoter ( who was a HUGE fan of ours) and wanted us off the bill and to play in the downstairs bar instead of opening for her.

After a meeting backstage, the promoter told Dax's people that the reason we were on the bill was to bolster the audience numbers and that without us she wouldn't even be playing! We went on, got Neil our sound guy to turn it up and once again blew her off the stage !!

I spoke to her backstage for a while before the show and it was like talking to a midget manniquin, No soul and no charisma - she was 80% air and plastic even back then.

He plays bass, guitar, grants wishes, strikes down mortals, and can dance the robot better than anyone.

As for the Dax/RS thing, that's an odd lineup. Now I'm not totally familiar with everything Dax has done, but isn't her music more low key? I've always found it odd when a promoter tosses a more aggressive band on the same bill as a low key artist. If this was the early 90's, it would have been before RS hopped on Reznors train, but they were still a bit more rock like than Dax.

Actually, he can play bass (Utah Saints gig a most public example thereof) - but by his own admission not all that well.

Annoys the hell out me, to be truthful. And is really a disservice to both. Whilst there's something to be said for trying to expose people to something outside their comfort zone (Public Enemy, anyone?), in my experience it's rarely successful.
