"angry and ready to kill"? Dear me...I understand your indignation but at the same time Ramone is so very absurd and silly - a different tone,as they say. While I have only been here a short time,as far as I can see there is only one rule - "Play nice"

7anthea7 wrote:Here's a clue for free: If you'd been paying attention, you'd have realised Ramone throws that sort of inflammatory stuff around all the time - and it's understood that's it's not meant to be taken seriously. Holding him up as justification is understandable, I suppose, but also fairly ludicrous. Is it PC? Not a bit. Were these 'personal attacks'? Also, not a bit - because they were understood, in context. You can call your friends idiots in jest, and they won't take offense. But using a distasteful adjective in the way you did implies something about your character/maturity/judgment that does not go down well around here.

And I'll accept that my judgment was less than perfect when I posted my comment (which I'm not going to edit or remove, because I'll take my knocks for it). But you pissed me off - less with your original comment than with the attitude you've flung when called on it.

Grow.The.Fuck.Up.
Now hang on, if I get this right I can call people all manner of disgusting things but if I do it in jest it'd be o.k? Nah, I don't think so.

Indy showed a flaw in his character/lack of maturity and poor judgement? To be honest so does anyone using those terms no matter who they be.

Indy I feel did display the typical playground and childish response of 'well they did it too so I can't be blamed/told off' Which immediately then lost any sympathy for him. An apology followed by a but is no apology whatsoever.

We either accept bigoted language from no-one or everyone - I know which I'd prefer.

Nope, nope, nope - sorry if I didn't make myself clear. It's not 'okay', but at least it's understood that you could have substituted 'wanker', 'mofo', or any other of myriad 'insults', and they wouldn't have been taken as personal attacks, 'cause - well, that's just Ramone. Which is why I said using him as justification was ludicrous, because it wasn't in the same spirit. I did not by any means intend to promote a double standard.
And also wrote:Indy showed a flaw in his character/lack of maturity and poor judgement? To be honest so does anyone using those terms no matter who they be.
Couldn't agree with you more.
And then wrote:An apology followed by a but is no apology whatsoever.
See previous response. And that's what really pushed my buttons.
And finally wrote:We either accept bigoted language from no-one or everyone - I know which I'd prefer.
It's a tough call, that one, innit? Do the mods play nanny and ban any 'language' whatsoever in the event that it might offend someone (which amounts to censorship), or do they have to analyse every potentially offensive comment for intent? I have my own internal meter for these things - but not everyone's is set the same. :|

Not to my taste stylistically either - but effective. It's what I consider 'public' (i.e. belongs on view in a public setting) rather than 'private' art - too uncomfortable to live with on intimate terms, yet paradoxically also tends to lose its impact if it's just part of a daily environment.

Hint: When I post in red ink it's supposed to be an official moderator response.

Ramone can get away with it because he's a big gayer. ;D

Anyway, we'll let this derail drop now, OK?
