I revisited the Virgin.net interview for other reasons and this bit caught my eye.

I recently declined the opportunity to do guest vocals on a single for somebody (who shall remain nameless) because the lyrics were appalling - and very silly. I thought "If I sang that rubbish, people would accuse me of being a g***!". (The artist who shall remain nameless was not, of course, accused of any such thing.)

Turns out the lyrics had been written for her by David Dorrell, a prime originator of the "Sisters are g*** and therefore crap" smear. There's a nice irony for you. Pot calling kettle black, I'd say - except that we're a stainless-steel kettle and very shiny. He remains a dimwit, and he's scraping a living writing crappy g*** lyrics for mainstream pop artists.


Checked out David Dorrell's discography and, yes, he wrote the lyrics to Sarah Brightman's How Can Heaven Love Me.

And the lyrics are rather appalling. Von did sing the German interlude, tho.

Not only the lyrics but the entire song is appaling IMHO. The german interlude is well worth keeping that song on my computer, though.

The part Von was singing on that CD was not written by Dorrell though. It is from the Nietzsche poem "Vereinsamt":

Sarah Brightman was in Repo! The Genetic Opera. That's pretty goth.

Didn't know Von was on that record. What else has he appeared on?

I'm guessing the song in question is the thing Kylie and Nick Cave did, hence the cover of confide in me.

Of course, my guesses are rubbish, and just guesses.

Edit, I've now found that
Nick Cave wrote that song, and wonder what the whole confide in me thing is about?

Confide in Me is just a Fine Pop Song.
