Well, Irvine is not my most fav author but I do like some of his work. Especially the novel Trainspotting. Me favourite author of all is in bold

I rather think IW was cursed by having his first book become enormously successful. I don't feel anything else he's written has been of the same calibre as Trainspotting.

It's a fantastic book. His shaping of characters is second to none IMO.
Try 'I am Miami' if you liked Glue - novella published in a collection of shorts last year.

I bought Trainspotting to take with me on a school trip to London when I was 13, my mum confiscated it because I think she thought it would turn me into a junkie. So I just taped the film off the telly instead and watched it a hundred times.
And I've still never touched anything more illegal than a Baileys.
(Apart from maybe that one wee sneaky puff of the wacky baccy on Planet Dave that made me feel ill )

Those currently classed as worthy authors at corporate HQ include: Umberto Eco, Gene Wolfe, Neil Gaiman (sometimes), William Gibson, Peter Ackroyd, Philip K Dick, Neal Stephenson, Charles Bukowski, Jeff Noon, J G Ballard, Haruki Murakami, and emerging newcomer China Miéville.

Oh yes, I really loved to read Bukowski - and Genet ... but also Rimbaud,
Artaud, Adorno, Celan, Nietzsche, Yukio Mishima, Stanislav Lem, Alice Miller, Agatha Christie and plenty more ...
However, I hardly ever take the time to read at the moment ... Derrida has been my last finding ... wonderful ...
