The first 7" singles I 'owned' were bought for me - the best of which was 'Way Down' by Elvis - the song that was in the charts when he died. :(

Cassette: 'Mask' by Bauhaus - remember sending off for it from one of those ads in the back of the NME.
LP: 'Still' by Joy Division - got my big brother to buy it for my birthday
