I like exclusive treats but that's somehow weird - I wouldn't be surprised if some interested people are living the imagination that they can become "best-pals" with the band. But the band will be gone next day because the deal is over.

True and agree at about 90%. Doc points a view that must be in mind of whoever would like to pay that cash.
I would like also to add that if the band agrees and do such thing with such kinds of $$ for ticket price will be controversial with their stated ideas of politics, life, attitude etc also known as cosmotheory. ;D
More likely, if they say the truth about what they believe in public, would be to play a gig to support a workers union that is in 1 year strike with starving families behind than a 4,000$ ticket price gig for a small rich people in a private island in carribean.
Please, correct me if i have wrong view in this, or there is a drastic change in their attitude or they stated otherwise somewhere.

I wouldn't pay that, but I've spent about 3x that over the years going to their gigs. Go figure!

It would definitely be controversial - it certainly has been amongst Peter Murphy fans - which is why I raised the question on here. My initial reaction was that it was a betrayal of Bauhaus' punk roots, and the same would be true of the Sisters. But in the current environment where recording and releasing CDs the traditional way costs rather than raises money, artists have to be creative to survive.
The only reason Murphy was able to release Ninth last year was because of a wealthy benefactor. These gigs are an alternative way of getting the cash together for the next album, and were part of a more traditional tour with larger venues and normal ticket prices open to (almost) all.
Ultimately, this new model is not that dissimilar to the main alternative (Pledge) where there are often more outlandish items to pledge for at ridiculous prices which no-one seems to object to.
If people are happy (stupid ?rich ?) enough to pay the $4k, then is there really a problem? It's hardly Sin City.

Didn't The Sisters play that sort of "special" gig already in 2009?

And it did not seem to have been such great fun ... Image...

Hm it is a bit bad form, that, isn't it?

Rather, I was laughing at the fact that I could repeat it verbatim.

I couldn't resist asking Chris Catalyst what he thought of the idea on Formspring and (decent chap that he is) he answered very quickly as follows :
Chris Catalyst wrote:"This just isn't the sort of thing I'd ever particularly want to do, particularly with the Sisters. I hate having to ask for money off people at the best of times, never mind four large."
I suppose he's had plenty of experience playing to (undeservedly) small crowds with EM so it would hardly have been a novelty for him.

It's not "the band", just Murphy.

I allow Eldritch to be "the band" whoever's playing guitar, but Murphy doesn't get that privelige.

I've said this before but a far better model is the one Marillion pioneered more than a decade ago where you simply pre-order the album before it's recorded. You pay the price you would pay anyway (deluxe options are also available) and they use the money to fund the recordings, publicity etc. The pre-orders get a special edition with bonus tracks or special packaging and, as a bonus, the first however many orders get thanked in the sleeve notes. Everyone pays a set, sensible amount - either the normal sale price or a bit extra for a special exclusive edition. Marillion don't do it with every album but have tried two or three variations over the years, always successfully, and are doing it again with their forthcoming album. They won lots of accolades and (I think) some industry award first time out and the model has been adopted by other artists. Of course, if someone wants to donate a lot more then let them but this lets everyone take part regardless of wealth and you get what you paid for.

I was going to respond with a quip about repetitive setlists until I realised that "verbatim" and "ad nauseum" don't mean remotely the same thing. I'm off to brush up my English. Which won't help because they're both Latin.

Yes with one condition TSOM Re-records YCBTO and TSOM releases as first single from that album.

Oh hell, now I've actually clicked on the link that Nikolas gave us ... ...
An experience like no other, in a location known for its decadent splendor, fewer than 50 fortuitous guests will join Peter Murphy in Las Vegas for an intimate, all inclusive weekend that will afford fans unparalleled access to Peter himself.
You will join the other winning bidders in Las Vegas on Friday, March 2, 2012, and will be chauffeured in style in a resplendent Rock Star tour bus to and from all venues for the weekend. You will also enjoy the accommodations of a luxury Four Diamond hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. On Friday evening, you are invited to a private welcome party hosted by Peter Murphy. Free flowing libations, luscious treats, and the opportunity to spend some time with Peter will make this an exceptional evening... and it's just the beginning of a weekend you will never forget.
Saturday night's festivities will be held in a secluded and elegant Las Vegas mansion. The highlight of the weekend: a private 2-act performance that Peter has specially planned for the evening, with a set list that he has chosen especially for the lucky few in attendance. During the evening, Peter will take questions from his guests... and no one knows where the conversation may lead. The night will be an extraordinary experience for all your senses. After the show, Peter will host his guests at a sumptuous dinner prepared by a world-class chef.
On Sunday, everyone will join Peter for a farewell lunch at a world-famous Las Vegas Moroccan restaurant.
Every guest in attendance will also receive unique, a one of a kind, limited edition gifts personally chosen by Peter Murphy.
Really hard to decide what predominates - disgust or just laughter ... this is in fact way worse than I had imagined ...   ...

There are some on Murphy's facebook page which would make your toes curl and make one think of the old reality TV hit "The Batchelor". I tried posting a link but it didn't work, but if you look at the comments for the March 5 entry on his FB you will see what I mean...

I suppose anyone willing to pay in the first place is likely to fawn embarrassingly whatever happened.

Where does $4k per person come from?

You can get a small sized venue for about $500 and a fee of $10k would book pretty much any "popular / successful" band, unlike Murphy & Von 8)

Murphy charging $4k *EACH* punter is just daylight robbery...
