I agree, that U2's latest output - say the last 2-5 years - has become mediocre.

However, I still like them and their live shows are nice :roll:

Re the new album, it's not great, but not that bad as well IMO. Maybe you should give it a chance ...

I think I've heard most of the songs now, that Joey Ramone one has just been on Radio 2 now for example. It's funny because as an excercise I listened to the Unforgettable Fire yesterday and actually the seeds of U2s MOR mediocrity were being sown even then, IMO. To my ears that album had some decent songs on it but there appeared to be a concerted effort to construct themes that would appeal to the lucrative US audience. Cynical of me, I know. I still like the Boy, War and October albums alot and I thought Achtung Baby and Zooropa were actually efforts to push boundaries but it seemed like the poor sales of Zooropa forced U2 into backing off and settling into a more safe approach, hence the similarities of all the albums since.

But each to their own.
