Now a slightly less nice bottle of malbec. Still nice. I won't care what the next bottle tastes like, but.

On the Löwenbräu with intermittent palinkas just for the fun of it. This could get messy.

Time to start drinking seriously (as opposed to the casual, light-hearted, devil-may care drinking that I've been doing lately). We've left the EU, my friends in the UK have been wished a Happy New Year, and I have 5 hours to get as drunk as a cupboard full of scotch, vodka, Khmer palm spirit and Laotian rice whisky will allow (which is "very very very").

For those in the EU: pray for us. If that's your thing. If you tend more to the sacrifice of small squeaky things to some eldritch power of The Ancestors, then do that. Whatever it takes. We're going to need all the help we can get. If that help comes from Cthulu, so be it - we will not be picky at this stage. Really.

For those in the UK: it's been an hour. Already I can imagine that the cold winds of empty supermarket shelves, 50 mile lorry tailbacks, and vast reams of red tape required to send your friend in Hamburg a birthday card are beginning to be felt. If drinking is your thing, my advice would be "start now" (or continue) and don't stop until we rejoin the civilised world. This may take a while, so pace yourselves and remember to stay hydrated.

For those in the US: we've got some time. But that's no reason not to get drinking. We've another 3 weeks of that tango-tastic tiny-handed assclown to go, so staying drunk until inauguration day seems like a good idea to lessen the pain of whatever tomfuckery he's got planned. It won't hurt less, but at least we'll be numb.
