Sad but true.

I wish I could tell how seriously to take this thing, honestly. The university has been telling us to prepare for teaching all of our courses online, and Amtrak has cancelled non-stop service between NYC and DC. But is this overreaction? I can't tell.

I guess if I have to self-quarantine I'll get caught up on my reading and break into the various whiskies I've collected over the years. As of right now we are still planning to fly to Amsterdam on Thursday.

At least, it has some agreeable side-effect ... not so many people in the streets, everybody careful ...
that is quite a different atmosphere to what we had before over here ...

only now, all we see so far ar pictures and words ... but the effects in the longer run could be devastating ... for everybody.
Worse that the aftermath of the banking crisis in 2008 ... and as the whole planet is concerned, there might be some changes
coming up, one never had imagined ... it feels funny already. Self-isolating, mass events of any kind cancelled...

Look at the bright sides:
- millions of tons of CO2 and other nasty gases are not polluting the air (as an effect of halting production in China);
- the same goes with airlines - if Earth could speak I'm guessing she would thank us fort this - ableit brief - releas for her;
- millions of Chinese citizens can see blue sky;
- if all people who purged malls from sanitaition products will use it, it will with benefit for all of us, even if it's just for sesns of smell.

And I'm writing as husband of woman in high risk group - If she, our kid or I get it might end up very, very nasty for our family.

I've noticed that whereas before when terrorism was scarier than pneumonia people would jump and s**t themselves if a car backfired or some c**t (me? nah not me.. ) popped a crisp bag...or adopted a deep southern Co. Claire accent and declared "don't f**k with me i'm fron the fukken IRA ! thats right the independent rickets adjudcationists" before detonating a crow-scarer (again - not me ok?) now its the sudden sound of coughs & sneezes which cause consternation on public transport.

that and me going >>inward-breathed high-pitched screeching noise at vol. 10<< does it too.

So I found a line of music that lasted 20 seconds. Nice, solid, 4/4 beat, easy to make sure that you didn't go too quickly. Simple words to remember.

Today there was announcement here in Greece, that all concerts/events with capacity over 1,000 will be postponed/canceled until new announcement from the Government

Don't know if there are any Wolves (UK team) fans in here, but something interesting come today that involves them. They will play against Olympiakos next days. The president of Olympiakos shared in social media today that he has diagnosed with covid19. 2 days ago he was celebrating a win with the team and kissed and hugged all the players and staff of the team

For health reason (serious, not because we're joining the panicing flock) we have to cancell Saturday out for first proper rock gig with my 7 yrs old daughter. But gig itself is not cancelled.

What they mean of course is "elderly people on low/fixed incomes who can't afford to stay at home and get groceries delivered, i.e. no-one who reads our newspaper." I feel confident that once three or four Tory peers start coughing up blood the newspaper will revert to its usual line of "immigrants are ruining this country, bringing in their filthy foreign diseases".
The real upside, of course, is that something like Covid-19 will go through a closed environment like a private school like prunes through a short grandmother. Meaning that we can knock off maybe 20% of those kids who would have grown up to be Tory MPs (and frankly, if I had a choice between my kid dying of this thing and of his joining the Tory party I know which I'd choose), free up some university places for kids from less-advantaged backgrounds.
