I'm a real introvert, who literally would never say boo to a goose! But I travelled alone from Glasgow to London for the 2021 shows. I was meeting Ruffers there, but knew no-one else. I stayed at The Enterprise. I saw a couple there whom i vaguely recognised from FB. I don't know how it happened, but I put on my brave pants and went over to say hello ( I was totally sober). Turns out it was the very lovely Charlie and Planet Dave

Moral of story...if a middle-aged country bumpkin introverted female can do it....so can you!!

you literally just described me! and actually you're right: it's downright pathetic to be 'shy' at my age - haven't been to a gig in years and the thought is turning me teenagery. I shall turn up, grow up and buck up, or something - thank you all for the reassurance and help. cx.

Any recs for food/explores/must dos while in the area for the two days? First time in the UK let alone London and want to explore between the shows but am not super keen on the usual touristy stuff.

Camden market is full of all sorts of little alternative shops and places to grab all types of food.

A lot of people stay at the Enterprise Hotel/Pub as it's almost opposite the Roundhouse, so it's one of the main meet up points before and after gig, you'll definitely not be alone if you go there!

Thanks, I should have read the whole thread first, been in 'very unexpected trip' organising scramble mode. We're staying at the Enterprise! It seemed the most practical option. I'll be the other one in black.

Seriously though, if anyone hears an Australian woman around there then it might be me, come say hi.

If you don't want to go into central then maybe Highgate Cemetery with Karl Marx's grave, that's worth a look and suitably goth, and Highgate Village is all very posh London with some nice albeit pricey pubs. Hampstead Heath is close for great views over London.

Depends how long you're here for and what you're into (obviously!)

with the exception of the Enterprise i'd say the pubs in Camden are as expensive as anywhere else in That London.

Hmm, fair question. We're not going long, just staying in London for the show nights, and am working out where else we're going around that. Mostly likely side questing briefly to Manchester. Maybe to Lille for the gig there and the novelty of being able to take a train between countries.

Not posh tastes wise. I prefer food places/pubs that are more just local/everyday over fancier options if that makes sense. I'd rather know where to go for decent fish and chips and kebabs than say, a wine bar. Tolerable coffee - just plain freaking coffee - and baked goods also a plus. Sausage rolls are a staple here so am curious if any differences. I've never had a Yorkshire pudding or a jaffa cake, or snakebite and black. I have murdered many currys, and I'll do it again. Most of the rest of my British culinary references admittedly come from Blackadder or Young ones.



Highgate is prob on the list as the American is dead keen (sorry) on cemeteries so that's good to confirm. Record stores, used book stores, charity shops. The canals look interesting. Lots of the parks look lovely. Not keen on generic souvenir tat, but like supporting local artists in most mediums where possible. I like just wandering and taking in neighbourhoods, also prefer slightly quieter areas to busier hubs, if that makes sense. I've been told Camden Passage might be more my thing? Primrose Hill, Camly St Park, and Islington also got mentioned.

Quite near Brick Lane which is famous for it's curries along with Shoreditch Spitalfelds etc.

So I’ll be in London for both shows, staying near the Roundhouse in Camden a bit before and after the holiday weekend (the Enterprise was just not in the budget this time around, but next time…), as this will be my first proper visit to London out of four visits to the UK. Will be avoiding tourist traps like the plague, but will be looking for record stores, book stores, art galleries, parks/botanical gardens, places connected to English writers, etc., food/drink at as much of a budget as possible, and to meet as many new, friendly faces as possible. Having read some of the comments posted in this thread from fellow concertgoers who feel shy and introverted and a bit nervous talking to people they’ve never met in person, I completely understand how you feel, because even though I’ve long grown out of my own shyness and introverted ways, I haven’t done something like this in a long time myself and will be pushing myself out of my comfort zone as well. But I’m sure we can all break the ice in this space in the mean time, making the in person introductions easier? I will be another leather, black clad female in a Sisters shirt as well, but I will talk to anyone who’s friendly regardless (even a West Ham fan ), and I will even be the go between if need be
