All Sisters tracks, ranked

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

First; welcome! Quite a starter, I'd say! i love those lists...

Second; though my list would look different, it's obviously from someone who deeply knows the songs and have an opinion about it. Not much to argue about...

Just a few things that puzzled me; I was looking for "Rain From Heaven" and "Jihad" before I remembered that these are "Sisterhood" tracks, and "Colours" has been released as a Sisters song later.

Talking covers; I thought Knocking on Heavens Door was released somewhere officially, but can't find it. It's not even on Enter The Sisters. Memory did serve me better once.

But isn't Jolene featured on the last BBC sessions, which kinda makes it official?

Many thanks, I wasn't aware.

But my memory thinks of something much earlier, before or around the Floodland release - I thought it was on Enter The Sisters, but it wasn't. I don't know where I got it from way back then, maybe the Wake video, or one of the first bootlegs I bought.

The Knocking demo would have been kicking around on the various Victims of Circumstance cassettes which had been in circulation since the mid 80s.

I'd first heard it myself on the "Ultra Rare Trax" CD bootleg where it was the rather poor quality "faded" version, presumably butchered by a bootlegger to keep the original "rare". The Victims of Circumstance CD also exists and has it, but that version is inexplicably lowpass-filtered at 10Khz. There are other sources for much better quality versions, easily findable on YouTube these days, and they all have tape hiss indicating the ultimate source was a cassette (perhaps the lowpass on the CD was to remove the hiss?)

The first live version I had was on a tape of the Aachen '85 show; I remember playing it for my brother who remarked "the guitar sounds like bass and the bass sounds like drums!" - it was a pretty bad tape.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

I guess this was the first bootleg I ever bought...
