I once asked a friend about this, as there is a whole
colony of penguins here stinking up a lovely beach. He reckoned that you can't eat any sea birds as their diet is too salty.

Don't know about penguin, but I've seen puffin on a menu in Iceland before. Whale, too, and reindeer.
Sadly I couldn't afford to eat in an Icelandic restaurant (hell, I've only won the lottery once in my life!) so I had to pass on the opportunity.
