You could of course just install Spyware Blaster from :

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

and this stops spyware from installing on your system. use it in conjunction with Adaware to keep your system clean. All I ever get is a few ad cookies now.

To stop the XP Messenger thing (NOT the same as MSN Messenger in anyway) go to:

1. Start, Administrative Tools, Component Services.

2. Click on Services (Local).

3. Scroll down the list until you get to Messenger.

4. Double click on it then change the Startup Type to "Disabled".

This is for Windows XP only (as far as I know!)

Doesn't stop popups during browsing though, does it? Which I'm sure was Black Shuck's original problem. These popups are normally responsible for installing the adware in the first place, all the ad-aware type of programs do is remove them AFTER they've been installed, Avant browser stops them in their tracks. I'd advise everybody to at least check it out. It's a tiny download too.

[edit] Actually after looking it appears that the Spyware blaster program you mentioned seems to do the same thing, i.e. prevent adware installing, so a  for me!

Can I just state as the only Welsh "Heartlander" AFAIK that I would never suggest that any one here "Come To Wales" !

I *cough* "Live" in Wales and DO NOT suggest anyone else does!

The sooner I can leave, and never return, the better.

BTW - What is the URL for that "Pop Up" - can snyone supply it?

No, sorry; But, rather bizzarely, I just had one imploring me to subscribe to the Wall Street Journal!
Aren't these advertising people supposed to be able to know everything about me, because of 'cookies' or something? Surely the people at the 'Wall Street Journal' should be aware that I only read 'Fortean Times' and 'Garfield' books!

Hey Karst!

Nice Golden Earring avatar. Twilight Zone on that album kicks botty.
