& the chemistry between him & Amy was brilliant.

So she's really his mum? No, hang on, she's his wife..oh no, she's the daughter of the belligerent Scottish one. How come she has no resemblance remotely to either one of her parents even for a tv programme?

I think I have to accept that "the old series with decent special effects" like Star Trek: TNG which is what I was hoping for I'm not going to get.

I pretty much lost interest in Doctor Who some time ago (while it was still Tennant IIRC) and haven't bothered watching it at all for maybe 3 years.

Nothing Personal, indeed a great actor, but not a Doctor.
I wish i could gave you a better explanation, but IMO, every single doctor has a special 'doc' Aura, and a very particular personality, that isn't related with the zeigeist at all.
The nowadays Doc have this 'young ish' atitude, kind hipster and stuff, seems just a form to claim attention from the new Generation, that isn't
interested in Doctor Who anymore(that bastards )

No Husek I think you're bang on the money with Matt Smith's portrayal. Even Time Lords have mid-regeneration crises and start acting like they're 800 years younger than they really are

Tell you the real problem - it's become massively popular with some really shallow writing and characterisation. Our main issue? We don't like that it's so mainstream now!

I did find him utterly terrible in that Hamlet though, however I did see him do a light comedy about decorators at the playhouse surprisingly well!

I still enjoy watching Dr Who, but then I do tend to see it through my nine year old's eyes more and use him as a yardstick on its quality...being a child he thought Tennant was amazing in the role (Eccleston was a bit 'serious' and played it more to the adult viewer IMO) and I think the combined force of Tennant and Russell T Davies steering it as lead writer worked brilliantly...for a while. I liked the initial Matt Smith changeover but I think it is limping along at the moment, for some reason Smith, Moffat etc as main writer don't seem to be doing it justice - it's not gelling, which is odd given their considerable talents individually...my son says it's gone downhill & I agree, let's hope this next series is different. I think Matt Smith will leave the role fairly soon, got his sights set on Hollywood of course....

up to dvd number 109 of the Dr Who DVD Files...sad isnt it....but you do get a chance to watch all the doctors...

So. Did anyone see it?

Had to leave halfway through.

If they're actually playing the 'Doctor Who' joke that overtly, we've crossed a line into a dark scriptwriting place.

It was better than the previous Smith episodes but that's not saying much for me as I'm not a fan of the smith series.

50th anniversary show though has Tennant and John Hurt in the BBC confirmed as well as Billie Piper which i'm sure most of you here would love...

I didn't mind it. It wasn't a fantastic episode by any measure, but I've seen much worse.

Watched it but can now just two days later barely remember it this can't be a good thing
