Nothing against CE - I'm sure he's more than capable of the role, however, I am alarmed by some of the rumours floating around. A more
sedately dressed Doctor and pa ossible romantic involvement with the companion who, worst still, may be played by Billy Piper!
Don't do it BBC!

Look you lot. We know who it should be.
Richey James as The Dok and SexyGoth as the saucepot on the side.
Why oh why oh why oh why oh why.
Brother Jim as The Master, and any number of heartlanders as the rest of the crowd trying to take over the universe eg Ed as some kind of dastardly behat(t)ed Victorian necromancer. Hey, that's the plot of the first show almost written.

He may be pi$$ed, but his idea is a damn site better than the crud we'll undoubtedly get. I mean, they wanna bring back the daleks ffs. They're too overused and should be rested for the first season at least.

Apologies for the thread necro, but the only other thread remotely relevant (that the search dug up) was a poll on the 2005 series.
This one appeared to be "generic" so here goes.
Trailer for series 7 is out...

Well, maybe this will be a good season.
Btw, i don't rly like this 11th Doctor, IMO, both 'new' Doctors before him was way better, just saying.

Do you not?
I think he did a superb job of making the character his.
& the chemistry between him & Amy was brilliant.
Hope this Clara works out as good.

I'm afraid I get all excited for Doctor Who and then end up finding it really disappointing.
Ooh, the Masters back! And it's Derek Jacobi hamming it up gloriously!! Oh, wait, he's dead..and he's turned into a giggling manchild with a gay crush on the Doctor..
The Time Lords are back??: Oh.. but they're evil now..why? Hang on, did he say Rassilon? Where did he get The Oven Mitt O' Doom from? Was that John Simm in a dress..bloody hell, is Bernard Cribbins still alive?? Why did the boss of Gallifrey address them formally by their nicknames, wouldnt he know who they really are and address them by their names?
The Silence?? Ooh, genuinely eerie new villains..oh..but they dont rightly do much..and seem to have no actual purpose. Oh, okay then..hang on, where did that "Silence will fall" storyline go?
So she's really his mum? No, hang on, she's his wife..oh no, she's the daughter of the belligerent Scottish one. How come she has no resemblance remotely to either one of her parents even for a tv programme?
Wibbly wobbly timey wimey? Bloody shmuddy baddy waddy plotting wotting more likey wikey..
I think I have to accept that "the old series with decent special effects" like Star Trek: TNG which is what I was hoping for I'm not going to get.

I pretty much lost interest in Doctor Who some time ago (while it was still Tennant IIRC) and haven't bothered watching it at all for maybe 3 years.
which isn't far from being a tl;dr version of DeWinter's post above

Nothing Personal, indeed a great actor, but not a Doctor.
I wish i could gave you a better explanation, but IMO, every single doctor has a special 'doc' Aura, and a very particular personality, that isn't related with the zeigeist at all.
The nowadays Doc have this 'young ish' atitude, kind hipster and stuff, seems just a form to claim attention from the new Generation, that isn't
interested in Doctor Who anymore(that bastards
)
But you know, it's just a point of view, and i'm not even british, so.. just ignore me

No
Husek I think you're bang on the money with Matt Smith's portrayal. Even Time Lords have mid-regeneration crises and start acting like they're 800 years younger than they really are
Tell you the real problem - it's become massively popular with some really shallow writing and characterisation. Our main issue? We don't like that it's so mainstream now!

We should start a "Doctor Who" appreciation society here in HL.

Fair enough. Agree to disagree, eh?

Blimey. I realise that was 9 years ago but I think I need to say sorry! That came over as a bit rude of me. I'm sure I didn't mean it to be! Sorry Mark!
I did find him utterly terrible in that Hamlet though, however I did see him do a light comedy about decorators at the playhouse surprisingly well!

I still enjoy watching Dr Who, but then I do tend to see it through my nine year old's eyes more and use him as a yardstick on its quality...being a child he thought Tennant was amazing in the role (Eccleston was a bit 'serious' and played it more to the adult viewer IMO) and I think the combined force of Tennant and Russell T Davies steering it as lead writer worked brilliantly...for a while. I liked the initial Matt Smith changeover but I think it is limping along at the moment, for some reason Smith, Moffat etc as main writer don't seem to be doing it justice - it's not gelling, which is odd given their considerable talents individually...my son says it's gone downhill & I agree, let's hope this next series is different. I think Matt Smith will leave the role fairly soon, got his sights set on Hollywood of course....

Had to leave halfway through.
If they're actually playing the 'Doctor Who' joke that overtly, we've crossed a line into a dark scriptwriting place.

It was better than the previous Smith episodes but that's not saying much for me as I'm not a fan of the smith series.
50th anniversary show though has Tennant and John Hurt in the BBC confirmed as well as Billie Piper which i'm sure most of you here would love...

I didn't mind it. It wasn't a fantastic episode by any measure, but I've seen much worse.
