There's something quite disturbing about that picture.

So it's been, and it's happened....

My heart started pounding as we approached and saw the front of the Academy with the simple words 'Tonight: The Pixies - Sold Out'. Then waded through the mellee to fill up the coffers of Frank Black by buying merchandise (did you SEE my most wonderful bag, people at the Wishville shindig??) Then wee-wee time. For the first time since the Chams at the Shepherd's Bush Empire, the queue for the boys FAAAAAR exceeded the girlies one.

Shuffled our way to about middle centre and waited - luckily we'd missed Graham Coxon - five mins later the crowd erupted. 9.01 pm the first guitar riff started and for the next hour and a half they never stopped. I'm almost positive there were three encores - but others say it was four. A strict curfew means they have to stop by 10.30 but I'm so pleased they allowed Planet of Sound to leak into 10.34pm.

They have never been a bouncy, chatty, look at our stage show kind of outfit - so those who have condoned the lack of 'London we love you, have you missed us' mularky have missed the point totally. Mr Francis has ALWAYS seemed to treat it as a job to be done - and my, he does that. The only time he moved from centre stage was to stand next to Joey Santiago for a track (yeah, as if I'D remember which!) Kim being the only one who utter a few words, did her stuff with a constant grin on her face or fag in her hand.

There's nothing like watching the crowd leap about, wave upon wave until there's nothing that those at the back cn do to avoid it...it took a while but by the end the whole of the downstairs were as one.

I've been waiting since 1989/90, expectations are a shaky thing but I can honestly say that tears leaked out a couple of times - notably during Cactus which to me is the most erotic/provocative love song ever. Levitate Me was stunning. I can't even begin to think what they DIDN'T play ( I need Gaz to come back and burn the cd for me.)

It's only 33 more big sleeps before Move...and I can hardly wait.

I 'heart' 'The Pixies coz....coz (are you ready for this Biggy) ''It's indie rock and roll for me!' it really is all I need. ;)

My friend saw them on Wednesday Night and has the same to say. Jealous? Me?
