Not entirely sure if this is what you're after, but I know a lot of women who are seriously interested in porn. Not the het variety but mainly gay porn. They watch it, write it, read it. In my former fandom slash is immensely popular and there are several writers who keep themselves busy writing het porn as well. So I'd say that women are into porn, but not necessarily the variety that men appreciate.

It took me a few seconds then to click that "het porn" was short for heterosexual as opposed to some porno slang term I hadn't heard of... D'oh!

Thats exactly the sort of post i'm after.

Slash is indeed very popular, i know. there's a site called fandomination (forget the rest, and can't look right now) which has all sorts of porn and fan fiction on, from harry potter to bands to jackass (no pun intended). that's a bit of an eyeopener in places. I never though Aragorn and Legolas... all written in Tolkienspeak too. tis worth a look just to see if your favourite books/films are on it!

I am familiar with those sites. I read a lot of slash myself, varying from Star Trek to Harry Potter and I beta the occasional story. Recently I have done a search for Sisters slash but nothing has come up so far. Not entirely sure I want to read about Eldritch and Wayne getting it on, but who knows, if it is well written.....

As to motivation: the mighty dollar I guess. I'm not making any value judgements here; whether it's a streetwalker trying to make enough for her next rock of crack or Jenna Jameson getting $4000 a day, it comes to the bottom line in the end. (Unfortunate turn of phrase in the light of earlier posts ). It's work you don't need any qualifications for, no heavy lifting, and generally warm and indoors, with a relatively good hourly rate

Some of the women in the "business" (although I'd guess not many) probably enjoy the work more than the streetwalker crack-whore does, and I suppose there are possibly a few who'd still do porn even if they didn't get paid.

Solo modelling ("glamour" shots and whathaveyou) is different; that's just having your photo taken in the nip. However, I have been led to understand that a lot of the "models" in photo-shoots by the UK's wonderful newspaper "The Sport" ( ) in fact are prostitutes. Which is pretty strange, because most of the mingers in that rag... well, put it this way: "Not with a stolen dick!"
