Well I ber to differ in my 20 years of collection most of the best boots that I have bought have been from Dealers who taped the gigs themselves to sell on admitidedly some of the tapers I know were also fans of the band, but Money what the chief object and that is EXACTLY why Exeter 30-10-84 was done!!!!!

my chief arguement isnt that he's selling a boot, its that he's selling a boot he obtained from legit sources on trust, and that he's using what appears to be downloads from the official site to pad out the collection.
wrong in so many ways.
and i take it very personal because i class mark as a friend, and also because i did the site that this guy is ripping off.
if gd were dead and buried i might not bother, but as mark is trying to drum up interest for a re-issue compilation then i think its plain old taking the p*ss.
@ matt (and anyone else in a band): how would you feel (apart from maybe amused and slightly touched) if someone was was flogging copies of your gigs on ebay packaged up with stuff you have offered for free download? profiteering from your good nature?
anyway, i complained to ebay last night and they seem to have pulled the auction today.
and as a word of warning to any lurkers reading this who are thinking about trying something similar, be it with any of the bands i have an interest in - the sisters, ghost dance, march violets, salvation, whatever - then i wont hesitate to get those auctions pulled too.

Im right with you on the Whole selling weeded boots (After all it was me who started the weeding thing in the firstplace), but it goes with the terrorory of being in a Cult band, is that Cult bands have deadicated fans who will buy ANYTHING whththere name on it, Personally I dont see a probaem with people selling boots as long as there not asking stuped money for them, I mean Many CDs that have been weeded Originally were sold for 20 quid a pop at record fairs (before the days of CD-R) and Videos christl I remember playing 30 quid for a really poor version of Briston Ace 83 + wonley TV footage.
We all now probaby have the Excellant London DVDs/Videos of the past few years, If it was for the money Im sure that guy wouldnt have paid off the security to get his camera in and then film the gigs in such good quality, I mean I was at the astiria the other weel filming a band I had an AAA pass on me and still the security tried to throw me out, even the backer of the gig couldnt get my camera out, yet master8 gets in every time!
Its always been debated as to weather or not Mr E is beinhind things like Plazograssi but If he was that objectionable to Boots then he would have controlled it by now, after all he could officially release boots as limited runs of 1000 CDs a op and sell them all.
I cant speak for myself cause ive never seen an ALF bootleg on ebay, the one thing though which i DO think in criminally Wrong is that People can LEGALLY profit out of bands by takeing Photos and selling them (what is the difference between taking a photo and selling it and recording a gig and selling it, it all amounts to the same thing), or Making T shirts eg do THE SISTERS OF MERCY in Goff font put on a photo of a pentogram and sell them for a fiver a time in camden market, though if bands like the sisters wernt soo greedy in charging T shirts at 20 quid a pop then demand for cheaper ones wouldnt be so great.
The whole things are swings and roundabouts, I did notice that the Same seller had been selling the Rosetta Stone CDs that were weeded on the RS list a few years ago (Approved by Porl and arranged by me). I dunno why Mr E doesnt put all the boots on one of those pay per download sites or Gary doesnt start pressing up Ghost Dance Boots, theres certianaly a demand looking at that auction in paticular.
Best

I see what Matt is saying here; all of my Sisters tapes (and I still can't f***ing find all of them. God knows what unweeded gems I might find if I ever dig them out?) from "back in the day" were bought from record fairs. And I was happy to get them for a few quid a pop. Fair enough. And I can see that in retrospect, at least some of the tapers must be "in it for the money".
But yeah, selling weeded stuff is an abuse of trust in a big way. And it has the potential to get the rest of us in big trouble. The Powers-That-Be seem to be turning a blind eye at the moment; if stuff starts cropping up being sold more often, that state of affairs might well end.
