I spent most of my life in the middle east and white is the only colour worth thinking about (black absorbs white reflects) and although petra is very pretty I think that the fact that it was built by arabic brigands to tax passage lends itself to white with beards (further protection from the sun & wind)

I remember seeing some pictures of nomads (or other women/whatever) in black burkha-like dresses, how about those

I always thought the Dominion vid was an 'Indiana Jones cum Jewel In the Nile' type mini-epic, with
as our man from the foriegn office/English hero negociating with the evil locals, and Patricia as his dubious sidekick who eventually double-crosses him before he finally gets bumped off! Or did i just imagine that through the purple haze.....?
And whats the problem with the beard?!? Didnt
have one during the Black October tour in 84?

I don't think so. At least not at the Leeds one as far as I could see. Which wasn't very far actually.

Precisely as deadalive and Quiff put it; Eldritch would, had he not taken the path of rock'n'roll excess, probably ended up in the Foreign Office as a diplomat.
Or so he says. Partly, this must be a nod to, or an appeasement (cough) of that path less taken.

I see those now infamous Amos Brearleys from the Wake era, but can't see no chin whiskers.

here's a couple of von with a beard circa 83/84:

there's one more i'm thinking of but i cant seem to find. i love it too - its the band sat around in a cellar. wayne is lounging in a chair, wayne and gary are mooching about, and eldritch has shortish hair and a beard, and is stood up in the middle. it was in melody maker or something like that with a caption about messianic bikers
and just in case anyone was beginning to thin eldritch was always cool, its time for a quick reminder:

Just wondering, because of the last photograph, does
he wear glasses because of bad eyesight too, or only sunglasses to look cool?

Autsch, Quiff, do you really have to show us everything? Shouldn't some things better stay in your gift cabinet?

It's funny; it never seems to stop looking good.
Cheers QB, those pictures are fantastic; I might just enquire into purchasing that first one from Deja Vu.

IIRC he wore the rose-tinted versions of them for the off-the-streets benefit in 92
