Heartland Festive Fifty (Take Two)

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

So do 78 rpm count? :P
Now now - you're not that old - 1981 gig or not

*gets nostalgic* I can remember having a record player which played 78's and you had to change the needle to do so - mind you ....... the 78's were all grandads classical records (no Sisters that I can remember  )

and if so...can i use my mums old 78's that we found in my nans loft?...]

oh...and Johnny...can i borrow your record player...mine only has 33 and 45...it would be good fun to hear these oldies playing again in their original format...not digitalised to sneck and back again...

@Dark-"phantom" is a fine tune...however this would all be a pointlesss waste of time if we all liked the same thing.

did you end up winning that "dub mix" of Torch by the way? :innocent:
Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

@Whizzkid - I never bidded. A dub mix of Torch would have been a brilliant thing, but for £12?

I decided to make my own Torch remix. ;)

@Johnny - No, not 78rpm. (Is 7" vinyl that hard to understand?)

So in the next months we'll try for:

July - Top 50 12"s
August - Top Nite Out (as you'll be busy around August time with that pop band of yours) ;)
August - Top 20 Flexis (for those able to post)
September - Top 20 78rpms
October - Top 50 Picture Disks/Shaped records
November - Top 50 Promo records

Or something like that. We could give the Channel Four broadcasting department a run for their money with all these "Top ## $RECORD"s.

Can we have top 50 records that we wish we owned?

Or a top 50 that we own in more than one format (not counting copies that have been made for convenient listening in Walkmans, car stereos etc)?

And finally a top 50 records that couldn't be squeezed into any other pigeonhole. Square discs on round vinyl, perhaps.
Names are just a souvenir ...

I'd like to nominate a top 50 records we wish we didn't own. I started looking through my singles last night and dear oh flippin' dear, as Graham Taylor once almost said. And I'm not talking about gifts from Granny here, I'm talking about things I handed over 64p for.

Some random 7"s I found last night. Note to Dark: These are not what I'm voting for

Bob Geldof -- The Great Song Of Indifference
Spitting Image -- The Chicken Song (the b-side is "I've Never Met A Nice South African" Sorry Hal)
Timbuk-3 -- Future's So Bright (Gotta Wear Shades)
Transvision Vamp -- I Want Your Love
Dennis Waterman -- The "feem toon" from Minder
Aled Jones -- Walking In The Air
Tom Jones -- Delilah (an ex-juke box "Old Gold" re-release)
Lynyrd Skynyrd -- Free Bird b/w Sweet Home Alabama (another ex-juke box one)

Jeez I've bought some right cr@p in my time!

In my defence, me and Kerry went through a phase of buying lots of 7"s from Oxfam a while ago for their "comedy" value, including some of the above.

haven't met too many myself.

I've never actually heard that song. Probably banned here at the time of release.

Hell, let's make this monthly.. ;)

If there's not too much fuss, we can do this until July 2006:

May 2005 - Top 50 Albums
June 2005- Top 50 7"s
July 2005 - Top 50 12"s
August 2005 - Top 20 Flexis
September 2005 - Top 20 78rpms
October 2005- Top 20 Normal-Shaped Picture Disks
November 2005 - Top 20 Not-Normal-Shaped Picture Disks

December 2006 - Top 50 Promo records
January 2006 - Top 50 Records You Wish You Didn't Own
February 2006 - Top 50 Records You Wish You Owned
March 2006 - Top 50 A-sides
April 2006 - Top 50 B-sides
May 2006 - Top 50 Live Bootlegs (That's right, BBB, a chance to shine)
June 2006 - Top 50 Demo/Rarities Bootlegs
July 2006 - Top 20 Official Material Bootlegs (eg, Polish Postcards and Russian Flexis)

The ones in red I might change to 30, 40 or 50, it all depends on how many people actually HAVE said items.

So long as all this is okay with the God Squad, I don't mind doing all these. If anything, you can blame Black Horizon for making those Album Polls and getting me started.

#2 Because only Tierkreis will release anything on them ever again

Oh wait, that's a reason to own them. My mistake ;)

There's a good enough reason for everyone, I think.

Now I just need to find somewhere that'll actually press them. When I do, however, we could do an entire flexi boxset of rarities.

Flexidiscs? Come on now, this is 2005.

Flexi-cd's, that's where it's at.

Flexi-CDs..? Nah, the best CDs so far are the ones which are designed to look almost identical to vinyls.

I wonder if they'll ever invent CDs which are vinyl on one side and CD on the other...

But despite the year being 2005, I'd release the whole lot on flexi if I could make them myself.

Someone a few months ago (was it Francis?) mentioned you only need about £50 worth of equipment to make flexis. If I knew how to get hold of said equipment...

Heresy. You could get a half-decent fx pedal for that money :innocent:

That's all very well for bands who use guitars, bass, drums and other conventional instruments. Wouldn't do us a lot of good. ;)

And anyway, who're YOU to talk about heresy? Christian Death?

Why not? We have 19 singles voted in so far. Knew 50 would be too much to ask for.

But nontherless, another couple of weeks left until the next one, there's still time.
