It really is lovely. Nicest hotel I've ever stayed in.

I paid £270 for 2 of us for 3 nights. Bargain.

The Hotel Krasnapolsky is classic and established in 1866. It features heavily in literary history surrounding the Stijl movement at the start of the last century. A more gruesome role has been as part of a assasination of Eastern European criminals where the Bulgarian Konstantin Dimitrov was shot in broad daylight seconds after leaving the hotel in 2003. So watch your back kids

s**t, I went there in 2003.
Another good thing is, the rooms have wooden (or laminate or whatever it's called) floors, so you can sit and spin yourself round and round on your arse.
Not that I have ever behaved so childishly, of course....

I'm going to get round to photobucketing some photos. For some reason about 3/4 were taken in the zoo.
Zoos are great places for children and stoners. Probably not so much for the animals like.

The photos are up on
photobucket (slideshow) or
photobucket (normal)
Funnily enough, three quarters of the photos were taken at the zoo... anyway, what I can remember:
Saturday, 9 July
The flight's at 7 am so we have to get up at 4... Nice.
IIRC most of the day was spent drinking and smoking.
Sunday, 10 July
Canal-boat today. It's well handy; you can hop on and off wherever you want (well, within reason. It tends to be a good idea to wait for it to stop.) So we went round the Leidseplein, and a bit of the Jordaan, and probably the Waterlooplein too. Plus the obligatory smoking and drinking.
Monday, 11 July
With the canal boat, it's still valid until noon the next day. So we hopped on to get to Amsterdam Centraal to get a train to Haarlem and Zandfoort (beach resort). Haarlem is mostly shut (I didn't know that Monday tends to be half-day-closing in the Netherlands--or more accurately, whole-day-closing) So a nice day at the beach was had. And when we got back to Amsterdam, guess what? That's right folks, smoking and drinking!
Tuesday, 12 July
The zoo! See photos.
I
think it was today that we met Scott, the
crazy Alaskan guyâ„¢. He bought 3 grams of
De Rokerij's strongest weed, and then asked for help skinning up. Just 4 joints from 3 grams! Madman! And he let me and Kerry have one just for helping him skin up! He was off to a poker competition and "needed something to help me concentrate". (Like that will work!) He was (or claimed to be) a professional poker player...
Wednesday, 13 July
Back home. But we still had most of the day in Amsterdam for more drinking. We thought it might be a good idea to lay off the smoking though, otherwise customs at Leeds Bradford airport might have been rubber-gloves time.

I feel the need to point that your
Springboks or impalas or some such are in fact Gemboks. Springboks are fall smaller, have a more golden coat with a white underbelly and taste great with a cranberry sauce.

Thanks Lucien.
Short-term memory and all that
I'm lucky I remembered that they were anythingboks.
