Well for starters, I think you should know that Bury Me Deep is not about being buried in a 6' deep hole in the ground after 'kicking the bucket' no matter how goth the title may sound. The song is about
sex.
You figure it out!

you missed my point....
the original bands werebeing themselves.
the goth tag was then applied to them, in some cases after they had split up.
later bands consciously called themselves goths... they invariably were not making music from their heart or soul, but based on the records they had already heard.
its the difference between a band making a gothic record, and a gothic band making a record.
one is being themselves and making music, the other is making music according to how they want to be seen.
if you see what i mean... (not sure i even do now
)

(needs more work to be a rant by the way)
So, let's look at these bands who claim the are goth - what do they mean by that?

Point seen. Don't suppose you could recommend any who
are (in your opinion) being themselves? Would be nice to see what people who actually have a clue consider to be goth these days

Probably bad form to quote myself, but that's what I was getting at here. Maybe the goth attitude, whatver it may be, now exists more in say .... techno? (surprise surprise
)

girls aloud
ahem. sorry.
i'll get back to you on that... to be honest i havent really been paying much attention to the newer stuff as its a little too derivative for my liking.
which i guess kinda backs up the initial post
whoever it was that suggested that any new band doing their own thing would probably not be called "goth" was possibly right. they would probably be shoved into some other box... maybe you have to look outside the "goth" tag these days in order to find bands "doing their own thing"?
i guess its a question of do you want a band with a "goth aesthetic" or a band with a post-punk attitude, which is where
most of the original goth bands came from...?

And round it goes.
I know what I mean.
definitely.
and when a band starts defining itself by those boxes and labels, then you get derivation and stagnation...
As Groucho Marx said -
"I sent the club a wire stating, PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON'T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT ME AS A MEMBER. "

We don't need new "goth" bands. Just good bands. They can label or deny themselves til the cows come home; I'll decide if I like them. Or not.
Although decent haircuts and black clothing always helps
But only if there's owt worth polishing in the first place.
