SPOT ON Pat  :notworthy:  :notworthy:
i've got the "original monster mash" lp -f**k knows why my dad bought that. what little amusement the song brought me as a kid has most definitely evaporated with time.i don't like comedy records (as opposed to amusing records ).

other most goth records
-"sebastien" sex gang children .sounds even gother if you play the single at 33rpm.

-"night shift" or "voodoo dolly" -siouxsie ATB.

-"love under will" - fields ov thee nephilim
<sniggers at the thought of carl mccoy in that film who's name escapes me saying "i've come for the little man">.

-"release the bats" and "deep in the woods" by the birthday party

-all of "only theatre of pain" -christian death
-anything by my dying bride

Being ever a follower rather than a leader, following multifarious mentions of the alleged Bowie copyists, I have recently acquired a couple of Bauhaus CDs, having previously only been the proud owner of The Singles EP on vinyl. To wit:

Burning From The Inside (a drunken keypress on play.com away from the intended object of my desire) In A Flat Field, which I recalled from a dim and distant thread. On their receipt I was surprised by:

- the musical similarity with Joy Division (if the percussion on Double Dare isn't the twin brother of a JD track which I can't quite put a name to at the moment, then I'm a Jehovah's Witness)
- the disappointing undanceability of any of the tracks compared with Kick In The Eye etc
- the un-Bowieness of Mr Murphy's vocals apart from the mimicking of the laughing gnome's 'away' at the end of the Bewlay Brothers (also copied by Mr Eldritch on the Sisters' cover of Gimme Shelter)
- the appauling Latin mispronunciation on Stigmata Martyr
- the fact that, notwithstanding the above shortcomings, how extremely well suited they are as the backdrop to an afterhours game of Cluedo

It was Colonel Mustard in the kitchen with a ham sandwich by the way.

AAAaaaarrrgghhh...

top goff has to go to the German sirens X-Mal Deutschland and the ultimate dancefloor filler "Qual" in all it's majestic and mighty 12"s of pleasure

you can also argue for;
Def Con One by the wildly excellent PWEI
Wardance/Change by Killing Joke
Pagen Love Song by the Virgin Prunes
Fatman/Moya by Southern Death Cult
Westworld by Theatre Of Hate
The entire Black Album by The Damned
Pretty Hate Machine by N.I.N.
and
Sonny's Burning by The Birthday Party

not completely goth...but...neither am i

I think Paradise Lost went the whole way and released an album entitled "Gothic." Presumably something Mr. E is unaware of. I also recall that PL referred to the Sisters as "Lords of Goth" or something very very similar after their supporting slots. Not the kind of thing to get you invited a second time.

Of course, any song with Vampire or Vampyre (even more so) in the title has to be a contender. I honestly don't know how some of these bands can keep a straight face.

I recall "Vampyria" by Moonspell as the loftiest Goth song I ever heard.
