Rosenrot.

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Mistress's (is that plural?)...

please don't be so harsh...we're only lowly men...we know not what we do...teach us to be pleasure in your salutated company...

I'm sure I could find some Achilles' Heel, but that's more Mr. M's bag

EDIT: I took out something personal there. Martin

Back to the topic, I thought Mutter was great, but really the only good thing they've ever done.

The last album is seriously unmemorable... can't even think of the title now.

Is the new one, Rosenrot, similar in style to the last one? Silly question. What I should say is, can anyone tell me a bit more about it please?

Think of the most unmemorable song on their last album (Reise Reise) and multiply it times 11. That's Rosenrot.

Thanks CD. Until proven otherwise (unlikely I assume), I shall be staying well away.

How spooky that it has just dropped through my letterbox courtesy of Ms Docre. Having read her critique maybe she's trying to tell me something with her 'gift'. Expect another opinion later. 8)

Review ...

'Benzin' - Great intro but then went a bit samey. Lines like " I don't need a woman, just Vaseline" should probably be left unquoted in a public forum ...

'Mann Gegen Mann' - I was singing along to the chorus by the second time.

'Rosenrot' - Somethig immediately struck me about this and I had to go back to the intro. Ahh, the dummer's been listening to 'Seven Nation Army' far too much ...

'Spring' - I almost had a heart attack when I thought a guitar solo was gonna appear at the end. Thankfully it was restricted to the same three notes. Repeated. Phew!

'Wo Bist Du' - Could have been any euro band. It did start the typical Rammstein build at the end but finished far too quicky. Or started far too early depending on your point of view.

'Zerstoren' - Trash metal demo. "Tell you what guys? Let's all six of us think of a seperate idea and we'll cobble them all together as an album filler. What do you say ..?"

'Hilf Mir' - Ja! Ja! Marching music is back in vogue. Fab.

'Te Quiro Puta!' - No! No! No! And No! A German sings in Spanish with lots of Mexican/Spanish background sound effects? Just no, Ok.

'Feur Und Wasser' - Nice little ballard takes up the first half of the track before we don our lederhosen and set off marching again. Second best track on the album.

'Ein Lied' - Melodic, reflective album closer.

But for those of you who know the album will notice there's something missing from the above track listing ...

'Stirb Nicht Vor Mir' (Don't Die Before I do) - Stunning track. By a million miles. By quite a few galaxies in fact. German male/English female duet. Very melodic and with a rudimentary grasp of German and English as your mother tongue, you will get those shivers down your spine. Top stuff.

I can fully understand how those who grew up with Herzeleid and Sehnsuct, and to a certain extent Mutter, with all the power chord-power chord-stop-shout marching music might see this as a sellout. It's certainly easier on the UK ear as were parts of Reise, Reise. There's certainly more melody in the verses on Rosenrot and the majority of the songs are only three or four minutes long (11 tracks, 48mins ...hmm ...) The lyrics are still mostly nonsense when litterally translated but what else would you expect from one of the funniest bands in the world? Which is the joke most people seem to miss about Rammstein.

First impressions? We like and it will get better. 8)
