As probably most of the people on here, I'm far beyond that age where you need to dress like your peer group in order to express your individuality.
Btw, what is considered a "goth dress"? Is it just the crushed velvet + pointed boots with buckles stuff or is black jeans + black t-shirt already enough?

Never can quite understand the reason why Von dislikes Goffs?
Is it right that TSOM refused to play at WGF on the understanding that it's full of Goffs?

I think seems to think the Goth thing is a bit laughable to be honest.
And yes, I believe he has turned down a very large offer to play Whitby.

The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.

Two quite simple reasons, same reason as I'd be mightily uncomfortable calling myself one, even if I have absolutely no intention of throwing away my crimpers and jangly bangles for the forseeable future.elamanamou wrote:Never can quite understand the reason why Von dislikes Goffs?
1)To call yourself "a" such-and-such is deeply lame, IMO. I have far more respect for people who identify as themselves rather than a member of a group that someone else dreamt up.
I think most genuinely creative and intelligent people have the same fear of labels and pigeonholing, which explains the reluctance of the majority of alleged "goth" bands (the decent ones anyway) to identify as such.
This has probably backfired in a way, leading to the ridiculous situation of "all REAL goffs deny that they are", and the word being hijacked by the kind of idiots who are far more comfortable with using it (yer Marylin Manson kids and the like).
2)Observe the horrors that can befall someone who does not process the Goffick aesthetic (as they percieve it anyway - ie. a lot of black things and minimum class) through the filter of THEIR BRAIN first...

I dont know anymore what makes you a goth or not anymore But I am me and myself. I do wear alot of black and listen to goth music, told a guy at work so, so he calls me a goth. It seems like he was looking at a freak show the other day I had on normal clothes, they were only black, and my normal shoes, nothing fancy. And he was "You wear alot of black huh? Come on you can even see it on her shoes" Good lord. If a hardcore goth was there they would laugh them selves silly. AND he said "I didnt think goths got engaged" Have I missed something?
