I can imagine that very well! I might sound pathetic but Christmas got a "new" meaning for me after my father had died six years ago. Now it's important for me to spend this day with my mother and enjoy the fact that I've still got her. Before I just took the fact that I've got parents for granted.
canon docre wrote:Nowadays I just try to sneak in other peoples families to not be completely alone on that day.
Wow, I admire that. I guess it's the best thing to do, but it would take me a lot of courage. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Christmas in general: I like the lights and the darkness and the fact that I don't have to run and get presents. But it's a hell of a time of year - either you have family/good friends to be with or you're completely lost. Done that once, wouldn't want to repeat the experience.

:( That's pants Jess. It's no fun to spend Christmas alone and missing someone.

Hope you get some merriness this year. If not, you're wilkommen in lovely Scotland - I never finish all my Christmas pudding  8) .

aww, thats very sweet, Claire.

But I have already another cunning plan: I'll go to a bar and try my chances with the sad & lonely of the opposite gender. :P I had great success with that trick last christmas as resistance is weak on a day like this. :innocent:

@Francis: I might be one of those slappers on christmas, therefore I can allow myself to play "hard to get" on New Years Eve. 8)

i am also spending christmas day on my ownsome now it seems.charlotte and the kids were due to go to oxford (her bitchcuntmother's) on boxing day but can't due to the car being buggered ...so they are going xmas eve. i'd rather eat glass from a broken small-pox phial than breathe the same air as those stuck-up bastards so i'll be taking sack-loads of drugs and drinking vats of cider solo. doesn't bother me -the nearest to celebrating xmas i ever get is to play "reality asylum" by crass for the baby jesus' birthday.

"i am no feeble christ, not me.
he hangs in glib delight, upon his cross, above my body.
christ forgive.
FORGIVE? i vomit for you jesu.
shit he forgives.
down from your cross.
down from your papal heights,
from that churlish suicide, petulant child!
down from those pious heights, royal flag-bearer, goat, billy
i vomit for you.forgive?
shit,he forgives.
he hangs in crucified delight nailed to the extent of his vision,
his cross, his manhood, violence, guilt, sin.
he would nail my body upon his cross,
suicide visionary, death reveller,rake, rapist,
lifefucker jesu
earthmover christus,
gravedigger you,
you dug the graves of auschwitz,
the soil of treblinka is your guilt,
your sin,master, master of gore,enigma.
you carry the standard of your oppression.
enola is your gaiety, the bodies of hiroshima are your delight.
the nails are your only trinity, hold them in your corpsey-gracelessness-
the image i have had to endure.
the cross is the virgin body of womanhood that you defile.
you nail yourself to your own sin.
lame-arse jesus calls me sister- there are no words for my contempt!
every woman is a cross in his filthy theology, his arrogant delight.
he turns his back on me in his fear, he dare not face me.
fear fucker,share nothing you christ
sterile, impotent,fucklove prophet of death.
you are the ultimate pornography in your cuntfear, cockfear, manfear, womanfear, unfair, warfare, warfare, warfare.
Jesus died for his own sins, not mine"

@Burn - I don't think I own the phrase, credit for that probably goes to some numpty who, after 15 years, is still dancing in a northern field with a couple of glowsticks... :innocent:

Not me babe - my glowsticks are imaginary. But I'll settle for the description. Suits my mood. :|

@ EMWK - sounds like an awesome way to spend christmas. If I didn't have 'obligations' - like cooking dinner, showing interest when the boys open their prezzies, and smiling politely at my family - then I'd join you quicksmart. I'll have to settle for getting diabolically pissed on red wine whilst cooking.

I'm cancelling Christmas. Can't be arsed any more.

Going home means lots of driving to cope with an extended family I barely know and barely wish to know. Friends scattered around the globe make it hard to gather together the people I like without putting up with random people I dislike. And finally work will keep me over-occupied between Xmas and New Year.

Which suits me fine. I don't have to pretend to be happy at a time of year which largely reminds me of things I've lost. All I really need is for a few fuckwits in the office to stop persuading me I have to go to their pointless party tomorrow night. They haven't grasped that they are only tolerable if I'm being paid for my presence.
