Ok, so since when did I exhibit any kind of contempt for looking into the lyrics? I actually find Eldritch's musings most interesting. That's
why I think that at times they may be bollocks. From an objective analysis of his past track record within the media and his obscure fields of reference, I believe it quite possible that a fair amount of the lyrical content could be a deliberate wild goose chase, much like the postcards from New York in the early 80s.
Feel free to disagree with me, but do
not put words into my mouth. You've quite obviously made a snap judgement on my attitude towards Von's writing - if you look even as close as the bottom of this page, you'll notice that I do actually legitimately contribute to these discussions. You don't have to take what I say seriously, but you're damn well not going to make bullsh!t assumptions based on a misinterpretation of a single line post made in half jest.
And since I'm here, I guess some defence of the attitude placed upon me is in order. Andrew is an entertainer. "You shut up, we'll play some songs, everybody's happy". If someone doesn't see 100 subtexts in Home of the Hitmen, then provided that they're entertained, Mr E has still done his job. The lyrics are one aspect of the band. Some guitar parts are half-arsed and so are some lyrics. Not every guitar part has a 7 minute 240bpm improvisation over an aleotoric sequence of broken chords in a mixolydian mode, but it can still impress and entertain the listener. Same with lyrics. I sincerely doubt that Andrew um'd and ah'd over getting a T.S. Eliot reference into every syllable - to be honest, he probably doesn't think that the "pond life" deserve it. Some of it's intriguing, some of it's s**t (Under the Gun, anyone? Second hand words
), but it's the Sisters and I love it. It's not for anyone to understand. If
Dark wants to listen to the songs at face value and you want to pick them apart, fine, neither pursuit inhibits the enjoyment the other gains from it. But for goodness sake, this is a fan forum, so can we not lay into each other, intentionall or otherwise?
