Definitely their peak, in my view. They were a killer live band back then, assuming they weren't too drunk. They really should have packed it in after this one.
Fun fact - I queued up for over an hour at a signing at Reading Festival such was my love for Lauren.
Hated the music - was just totally besotted by her.
Got about 3 people from the front, almost touching distance...and then they packed up and fecked off.
The restraining order came later.

Lauren is ace isn't she? I was on her Memory Tapes feature a few years ago on 6music & I was totally star struck when I got to speak to her on the phone.
Took me about an hour to stop trembling

Nostalgia is death. But this record is fantastic, and I can still remember purchasing it (on cassette, after getting off work as a teenager), having read a review in Thrasher magazine that began with something like "I don't normally like the favorite music of white guys with dreadlocks..."

Haven't listened to this in easily 15 years.
f**k YES. This is an epic album. Was just discussing the best drop d tuned songs on FB and several songs off this album were my top recommends. The best SG album by far for me
Also, nostalgia is mostly where I live these days. Mostly

dont you blame me for that @DJElectricDaddy
but while we're going there, this is an ABSOLUTE BANGER
the synths alone make it amazing, but having The Essex sing on it only makes it betterererer

Hehe
Epic choon. The 70s were great. Just an absence of cynicism in almost everything, but particularly the music and fashion

Metropole, by the Lawrence Arms. I'm not one for pop-punk, really, but this is an outstanding record, filled with saudade and excellent songwriting. If you can only check out one song, make it this one (first thing I ever heard by them):
