so which one of them wrote still then?.... and is etto available from the treasure chests of

Alright, here is my take. For what's its worth.
Didn't you say you'd make a difference,
You didn't say you'd want me to.
You didn't hear it as I hear it,
like you did
(NOT school girl).
Still, if it makes you happy.
Still, if it makes you glad.
Still, if it makes you happy.
It makes me glad.
You'll be the one asking me, why can't this be?
You can't be taken in.
Andy, you could be right,
you could be wrong.
I still can't write this song.
Still, if it makes you happy.
Still, if it makes you glad.
Still, if it makes you happy.
It makes me glad.

I've been listening to Still for about half an hour straight, and I heard:
Didn't say you & me could take a loss
You didn't say you wanted to
You didn't hear that there's another way
What you did this time for love
Still, if it makes you happy
Still, if it makes you laugh
Still, if it makes you happy
It makes me mad
Mumble mumble with gasoline (I'm still not sure about this line)
Why you got this fool
And you cannot take the Moon down
One day you could be the one movin' on
But I still can't right this wrong
Still, if it makes you happy
Still, if it makes you glad
Still, if it makes you happy
It makes me mad

still can't work out the verses but it's deffo this chorus.
Still, if it makes you happy
Still, if it makes you glad
Still, if it makes you happy
It makes me mad
eldo would never use glad twice and it fits with his black humour.

indeed.. first times he sings "glad", at the end he sings "mad"
i'll have a look into it a bit later.. maybe Docsummer's exellent recording from Tienen can make us a bit wiser..

From where I was sat in Tienen, the bastard intentionally mumbled the bits which weren't in my 2006 attempt
Bet he looked on this thread the night before

I asked ben via myspace regarding the correct lyrics - his response:
I'm afraid I don't know the lyrics to 'Still', so am unable to confirm

That got me thinking about something.
Technical skills of the new guitarists aside (I have no knowlegde to judge them), and their style of playing aside (matter of taste), don't you think that it's an utterly positive thing that we can actually contact them and receive replies from them? I mean, they are both very young people, and myspacing is probably as natural for them as backcombing was for us when we were their age, but then again - they wouldn't have to. Yet they do. You can send a PM and ask about anything, lyrics to Still, dates of gigs, why no new album, why no new setlist - and you get a reply, written by the person you wrote to. Of course the reply is usually rather diplomatic and only as informative as it is allowed to be
, but its politeness is unquestionable. Andrew Eldritch is Andrew Eldritch, we all know that he never communicates with fans, and the fact that this dirty job is done by someone - anyone - in the band, is a very positive thing in my opinion. It didn't happen with the previous guitarists, well not to that extent surely.
Ben and Chris have probably realised by now, after the initial enthusiasm, that being pestered by fans is one of the major drawbacks of fame, but they still manage to cope with it and maintain good manners, and I think they deserve a lot of respect for this.

I had some contact with ben from time to time and indeed he always try to reply to every message. Nobody forced him to do that and I can't imagine that beeing a guitarist for TSOM is giving a creative musician much heart and soul because you are basicly playing the same, few songs over decades. There's not much room for surprises like "good things", that's why I really appreciate this engagement for the fandom.

Yupp. But apparently Andrew occasionally is up for a chat as well, so Emma is not *all* on target.
I asked Chris for a few words once when I was in the roguesome para-music journalism, and got a very nice and detailed reply about the Eureka Machines and all.
They really do a great job at communicating, and in a very sympathic way.

To be fair, it always happened with Wayne and still does. He knows many fans personally and is active on the Mish forum.

i don't believe that!
this is just the laziness of andrew to play some "surprises".

Oh yes I am on target, because "apparently", "occasionally", "maybe here maybe elsewhere" "for the well-informed-chosen-few" is not a patch on "here", "at this very link", "definitely" "for all who are interested".
That said, I must add that I totally understand The Man's "apparently-occasionally" approach, and I would never expect him to change it.

Didn't you say you'd make a difference?
You didn't say you'd want me to.
You didn't hear it as I hear it
Like you did as a school girl
Still - if it makes you happy.
Still - if it makes you glad.
Still - if it makes you happy...
It makes me glad.
You didn't even ask of me
What you got this fool
You can undertake a new one
And one day you could be a... [cooper bar?]
I still can't write this song.
Still - if it makes you happy.
Still - if it makes you glad.
Still - if it makes you happy...
It makes me mad.
Still....trying

Ok all here is my take on this, for what it is worth
I agree with everyone on the chorus so I am not going to bother to type it out again.
This was taken from the very excellent Tienen recording
(Thanks for that)
It didn't say it made a difference
It didn't say you won't be true
It didn't hear it As I hear it
What you did was not to you.
You're a real has-been
that you can't disprove
You can't retake the feeling
Anyone but you should hear it as I hear it
And I still can't...........................
However, this doesn't go too well with the other couple of versions of this song that I have got, but what the hell,
Not sure about all the 'it"s in the first verse, but that's what it sounded like to me last night.
Hope this sparks some recognitions in others, and maybe we'll get it one day!!!!
Cheers

Still, at Tienen, obviously wrote:You didn't say it made a difference
You didn't say you want me, too
you didn't hear it as I heard it
What you did was up to you
Still
If it makes you happy
Still
If it makes you glad
Still
If it makes you happy
It makes you bad (me mad, usually)
More to come

constantly - I can't remember which gig now, but there's a version from, I believe, this tour, in which bismarck's "What you did was up to you " is very definitely what he sings.
I've been spending a lot of time under the wire on this one, with a broad variety of downloads and videos, and can only conclude it's a work in continual progress...

Yes, that version is Tienen 2008. I have a crystal clear amazing recording that I just got of it from the taper, and the 1st verse is almost certainly as it's written above. But I tried to use different versions to corroborate the 2nd verse, and discovered that they are indeed all different lyrics. But Tienen Suikerrock 2008 is as above, I'm sure.

And the lyrics to Will I Dream and Summer have even changed since inception, so I'd agree some words here and there are being changed on the fly.

Yeah, when people started commenting about him mumbling to himself off-mic, my first thought was 'he's either trying to remember the lyrics or making up new ones'

Hmm that figures with what I hear, Tienen bash:
Bismarck/obviously has 1st verse I would change the line to
You didn't say you'd want me to, same as
methadrome hears. I hear the 2nd verse as;
your real as can be, what you can't disprove
you can't return from new
chorus
anyone of you should hear it as I hear it
I still can't plan this through
says
bad instead of
mad again
