Did you know that in germany alone ten times the fund was raised as compared to what rich Saudi Arabia would give to help at least them muslim brothers?
At Troisdorf (seek me on our Frappr map to find the sad spot), a metal concert was given (with me as a helper there) where Perzonal War, Sixfinger and Corr (no longer existing..) scratched up 1000€ to give to The Greenhelmets (when you ask me why not to bomb my hometown they are about the only good reason which makes it worth leaving it intact as they come from here..), giving a new house/half a fisherboat to some family struck by the flood.
Then there were hundreds of dead tourists that are hardly remembered. Their survivng relatives who depended on them know have indifferent offices to talk to.
The difference was the flood was an act of god. 9/11 inscened by his fans.

edit - how big of an affect did this honestly have on you guys? They were simply buildings, and - I'm guessing, considering you all live either in the UK or elsewhere in Europe - that you knew none of the people personally in those buildings.

A friend of mine, his twin brother was working in the World Trade Centre during 2001, and only missed being there that day because he was late for work. I know it's a pretty tenuous connection.

The attack scared me quite badly at the time. Like I said, I was convinced GWB would launch a nuclear attack (against whom? I dunno) over the next month or so. Instead he "only" started the unwinnable "war against terror".

At the time the effect was pretty much limited to shock and awe, but afterwards it has become the excuse all despots dreamt of to take away bits of freedom slowly, enforce strict laws, of which we shouldn't be feeling the effect but are. I think it's more than quite a bit too harsh to wish something like this to happen, even to your worst enemy and even more so considering only about 22% of the Americans voted Bush (and I presume even less New Yorkers?). Therefore I do see this as a bad thing, just as every other attack on whoever/whatever wherever.

An how many do you think America would have had if the government would have been totally passive after 9/11?
Had the government waged a war of words only I believe it would emboldened many more groups of terrorists.
