Talking about audio stuf for Linux..
Jack does exactly what you are looking for, it provides low latency connection to audio/midi devices..
(Sir IZbert/Ahrayeph version)
And there are one or two programms that use this soundserver. Looks quite like it could do the Cubase job, even if it still is in an earlier developement stage.
...Just in case you didn´t see it yet...
;D

..which I doubt.

Ah, yes, I should've pointed out I already searched for some Linux-based DAWs...;D

These are indeed early developement stage programs. Most of them choke on something as simple as sixteen tracks simultaneous playing.

That's what I mean. They ARE developing, but they aren't there yet. Not even close :|

PS: I am following the development of Ardour, but I fear it has to be tested for a couple of years more before it can start the war with Cubase or ProTools...

 Not by me it's not. While, obviously, I know that the X is the Roman Numeral for 10, and that OS X is the successor to OS 9, I still pronounce it "Oh Ess Ex".
Ah ok, lol. It was a video on youtube where someone called it "OS TEN", I'd never heard the name spoken out loud before.

Vista

Apart from the fact that WinFS has been excluded
from Windows Vista (Microsoft's new database-based
file system, that will now presumably be in the NEXT
windows release), it seems other features that one
might have hoped would have 'arrived' are also
not supported. For example, it is still not
possible to boot off a system volume (i.e. hard disk)
that is external, e.g. connected by USB.

A coment this afternoon:
Well i installed Vista in my Microwaver... runs great... all the beautifull graphic effects once you power it up... great product tomorrow ill upgrade my toilette with the business version
We probably misunderstood Microsoft all those years.
Their software is so flexible, it even works on a number of computers!
 :notworthy: :notworthy:
Great find!

Of course, Vista will be replaced by Windows Vienna in 2009, so you may want to be part of the inevitable Osborne Effect.

And in 2010 a man stands in front of a bluescreen singing:
"The feeling has gone away, you and I, this means nothing to me,
(hits a reset button) This means nothing to me! Ooooh, Vienna.."
;D

The Dutch translation for Vienna is "Wenen".

I wonder if this is a slight clue....

No doubt around that time, Mac users will be telling us how much better their OS-Shaddap-You-Face is. :P

Can we put this to bed one last time please (and it is indeed fun to see the arguments)...

Whatever way you go, you need to buy a "box" with chips
and drives and stuff within it that works for you.
Software that saves you from dealing with machine code is good
too, and a major influence on your choice of "box".

With luck, it will connect you to the Interweb and play music, download stuff if you wish etc..

After that, argument is pretty futile...

Oh, and Burghy did make a number of good songs, I think.
