I need to rant
You can bet this forum is being monitored by the NSA, what with Von's love for the ol' Sovjet Union 'n all, not to mention the anti- american government stance taken by a lot of people here. And I'm quite sure it was the CIA that messed up the copy of my MCD I sent to Petseri...

In Spain it is very common and considered quite normal for babies to have there ears pierced just after their born. I thought it a bit odd when I first heard about it first but what hey they tend to get pierced by many other things while their in hospital. At least they will some have nice gold studs to show at the end of it.

OK, i'll be the sole dissenter. i can handle it.
we had our daughter's ears pierced at age 3 months. she never got infections, never pulled at them, never had a problem. she didn't care for her head being held still, but didn't shed 1 tear at the actual act of piercing.
we didn't do it as some odd "child pageantry" or any of your other skewed takes on it. we thought it looked cute, and it did. it still does.
now our daughter is 7, she's very much a tomboy. likes her earrings, but hates Barbie; prefers Godzilla and Hot Topic clothing. her favorite movie is Nightmare Before Christmas. she's artistic and caring, intense and curious.
a piercing is different from a tattoo - surely YOU LOT would understand that. none of you like to be labeled by the clothing you wear, or your ink, or your hair color(s), right? we didn't brand her with a hot iron, or bind her feet.
to deflect some of your hatred of America, don't forget half (or MORE) of us voted AGAINST doofus King George the Lesser, aka Dumbya. we detest his idiocy, his arrogance, and his refusal to admit he was wrong about Iraq (and other things). we are embarrassed by him. we are counting down the days until he's out, though his bad decisions will cost the USA and the world for decades to come.
i'm sort of surprised that those of you who would hate to be labeled or made to dress a certain way or think a certain way would like to tell others what they should do with their lives, and how to raise their children. honestly, you sound a lot like those who follow the conservatives, like Bush.
flame on, if you must.

I don't tell people how they should act. But I still think piercing a baby's ears is a very stupid thing to do.davedecay wrote: i'm sort of surprised that those of you who would hate to be labeled or made to dress a certain way or think a certain way would like to tell others what they should do with their lives, and how to raise their children.
Being tolerant doesn't mean one should just look away and STFU.

I had the same experience lately when traveling the USA. All people we've met actually excused themselves for having brought this nemesis upon the rest of the world. They were deeply embarrassed to say the least.davedecay wrote: to deflect some of your hatred of America, don't forget half (or MORE) of us voted AGAINST doofus King George the Lesser, aka Dumbya. we detest his idiocy, his arrogance, and his refusal to admit he was wrong about Iraq (and other things). we are embarrassed by him. we are counting down the days until he's out, though his bad decisions will cost the USA and the world for decades to come.
Well, we thanked them anyway for taking the title of "The world's most hated country No.1" away from us....
babys with earrings on the other hand are utterly disgusting regardless the current politic agenda in their country. (But that is coming from someone who never had any piercings herself)
Put their heads on f*cking pikes in front of the venue for all I care.

Still, earrings on a baby? I'm not convinced.

It's like that "baby shower" thing, which I personally find very disturbing. Celebrating the imminent birth of a child ? Just imagine the woman has a miscarriage : it will only exacerbate the pain. Plus it's such a gift for pro-life activists, to think that a baby is part of the family before it's born. If you throw such a party two weeks before the baby's birth, why not a month, two months, three months... Why not right after conception ? Would it not make the idea of abortion just unbearable ?
We all know it's just a trick to sell more insanely expensive baby stuff anyway. Much like baby jewellery.

The oddest thing I ever heard/read was someone who had a picture taken of him and his baby whilst he was washing it in the USA. Apparently the guy who developed the film remarked he'd only tolerate this nudity once, the next time he'd file a complaint for paedophilia

Basically, you throw a big party where you celebrate the imminent birth, and you offer the mother-to-be a lot of baby stuff, like toys and clothes. One must be completely blind and/or very stupid not to see the implications.Obviousman wrote: Never heard of that

Anytime I get an invitation to a baby shower, I just think "really, should I reward you for getting laid (with someone other than me) and not using adequate protection?"Badlander wrote:It's like that "baby shower" thing, which I personally find very disturbing. I don't hate Americans, I HATE the fact that you think it's perfectly acceptable to maim your children. WTF is wrong with waiting until she's an older child? You still might see Britney as a bitchy I love me who do you love cheerleader if you wait a few years before sticking holes in her ears.davedecay wrote:OK, i'll be the sole dissenter. i can handle it.

Besides which, it looks tacky and cheap. Mind you, I've seen Donald Trumpss house and you all seem to want to live in a hotel fit for Peter Stringfellow.
