Okay darling, how is that funny? Anyway, no need to wonder what the words are when they're right there. What part of that is funny?!

I tried to transcribe Crash and Burn and this is all I got:
Mumble, mumble, mumble . . . . am I driven . . . . mumble, mumble, mumble . . . . Crash and Burn.
Do you think there are actually lyrics to this song? Maybe Von really likes the tune and lines ‘Crash and Burn’ and ‘Am I driven’, but doesn’t have anymore lyrics so he just makes mumbling noises that sound like slightly interesting lyrics.
yes, indeed

Ok, I'll just go in the corner and cry now. Yes, officially he wrote down mumble, mumble, crash (something) mumble, mumble umm...(something) steaming carcasses and heavy drug use.
I've got a headache.

That running, half-a-horse always gives me the creeping horrors. So weird.

This is my take on it . . . .
We shimmer along the line
We shimmer to shine
We slide on cold elastic
The hollow, the prowess
Sum of all love
Take the knife
Sing
Do I drive
Or am I driven
Can I break
What I’ve been given
Take a walk
Turn
Talk
Or crash and burn
Everybody got a line
And I’ve got mine
She shakes . . . .
. . . .
She . . . .
. . . .
. . . .
She says
[chorus]
The home, the prowess
Sum of her love
We shimmer on the line
We shimmer, she shines
We slide on cold elastic
Sing
[chorus]

You great big pervert.
They're Von lyrics, so it has to be something combining (a) cars, (b) speed, and (c) some oblique comments about the rise of neo-fascism in western politics. Any references to "Elastic" are stretching it a bit (dreadful pun intended).

Apart from the fact that he seems to switch between "won't" and "don't" from time to time, what, exactly do you find erroneous with this:
We trip on the wire
We shimmer to shine
We slide on the chrome on plastic
The hum of the powerlines
Sum of a love
Trip the light fantastic
Say...
Do I drive
Or am I driven?
Can I brake
What I've been given?
Take a walk,
Turn
Talk
or Crash and Burn
Everybody get a wife
I got mine
She is queen of the back seat
Feeling fine
She's married to the soldier
In the army of the blind
So he won't notice us
So he won't mind
She says...

I maintain that there is a "Or can I _____ on" before "what I've been given"
Posted: 04 May 2006, 11:50
by mh
Nope.
The lyrics to the chorus were on the official site at the time of "Exxile on Euphoria" and it's "can I brake what I've been given". That's right - "brake".
No reason why Von couldn't have changed them since then of course, but it would have been unlikely if he did.

alright, since I can't get into Myspace at the library, in two weeks I'll rewrite what the words are to this song, and then you can all quit speculating-K? Obviously I'm invisible. Good, now I get to go around pinching people-yea!

Hahaha, I have to comment on this, if you keep insisting that it's the real Sisters.
There are about 10 people pretending to be The Sisters of Mercy on myspace! The one you're talking about (I checked) seems to be the one owned by Aaron Quinton, an old member here. The site doesn't proclaim itself to be The Sisters--but then, it doesn't say the owner is *not* The Sisters, either! Most likely he tried transcribing them himself or used one of the many versions as a basis, if not just copied for ease.
I don't think he has any real connection with any of the members of the band, besides meeting Ben and Chris at the shows--which everyone can do. I'd say it's a good interpretation of the lyrics, but I wouldn't say it's definitive.
I find it hard to believe that "The Sisters of Mercy" would actually have a myspace account... if for no other reason then, if they can't be bothered to update their own site that much, why bother to update a myspace?
Oh, and have you seen the one on myspace who says he's Andrew Eldritch? I think the owner's even got some "goth" journalist believing it's actually him!

Well, yes--sorry for the confusion-- that's what I meant by "old" member.
Nonetheless, he did give out a recording of the Vegas show, which I haven't yet thanked him for (I'm terribly slow sometimes). I don't want to get *too* caught up in what he did/didn't do, as I wasn't signed up here at the time, and I don't like hating people over the internet, or in real life for that matter.
Then again, I've never been "screwed over" by anything like weeding as others have said happened.
(To get back on topic a bit...) In an email once he said that Ben and Chris liked his TSOM look-a-like Myspace page, which was all he really cared about in regards to that.

fine, I don't know who it is, but anyway-they look alright to me. Yes, I know there are a bunch of different ones on there. They're doing a good job of pretending to be who they're not. I have to say that. Don't know who it is-doesn't really matter. How do they know who the opening acts are when the regular page is never updated? Hmmm.....Yes, I know there are ways to find out. I wish they would update the regular page, would be nice.

No, I didn't know about that one! How funny, this weekend I'll try locating that Myspace one. That's hilarious. The library blocks that particular place for whatever reason. Probably too much of a hassle or its been declared a dangerous place. They certainly try to convince you it's bad by all of the news reports. I suppose if you don't put any nudie shots of yourself you should be pretty safe.

No offence taken! I don't know either side well enough to take offence.

Most people can find the opening acts quite easily through MyHeartland. A lot of times people here even find and post upcoming concerts before they're posted on the official site (and sometimes even before the band
knows about them)!
I do think the owner of the site you're referring to structured the lyrics quite well... more in depth than most people do. However, I also don't think I've seen any lyrics structured that way elsewhere, even on the official site.
Well, you can search if you want, or you could click
here.
Funnily enough, it seems the person who owns this webpage erased all but one comment from the journalist quite recently, but the journalist is still the first "friend" on his list, and you can read through the comments on her page. I think the owner of that faux-account is another ex-member of Heartland, but that's another story![/url]

Heads up.
The second verse is clearer than normal in the Version included in the "War on Drugs" collection.
Everybody get a life, I got mine
Years on the back seat, feeling fine
She's married to a soldier etc
okay

actually, it's pretty obvious that myspace thing is just some guy but he did list the words as copyrighted so either he got hold of something, or he's a big fat liar.
oh wow

hey thanks for putting that link to that Andrew "myspace"-boy that was pathetic. Howzabout just completely copying everything off of the official website. I'm pretty sure the real guy knows how to use a comma every once in a while. I didn't bother reading the comments section, they are almost always pathetic, no matter who's page they're on.

Slip on the wire
Shimmer to shine
Slide on the chrome and plastic.
The hum of the powerlines
Sum of our love
They trip the light
Fantastic.
Singin':
Do I drive?
Or am I driven?
Can I brake? -
What I've been given?
Take a walk,
Turn, talk or
Crash and burn?
Everybody get a wife
I got mine
She's kneelin' on the backseat
feelin' fine
She's married to a soldier
In the army of the Rhine
Well he don't know,
So he don't mind,
She says;
Do I drive?
Or am I driven?
Can I brake? -
What I've been given?
Take a walk,
Turn, talk or
Crash and burn?
The hum of the powerlines.
The sum of our love.
We trip on the wire,
We shimmer to shine,
We slide on the chrome and plastic.
We sing:
Do I drive?
Or am I driven?
Can I brake? -
What I've been given?
Take a walk,
Turn, talk or
Crash and burn?
Or Crash and burn?
