Top 20 Goth Tracks - according to NME

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I'm pretty sure AE faxed the Editor of NME with a note "Happy Headache" when "This Corrosion" charted.

This article is pure bs, but that's quite obvious

However, I didn't know the White Lies before and their song (or part of it) strongly reminds me of Joy Division (somehow a mixture of She's lost control and Love will tear us apart). I will check out the White Lies (if they have released any album yet), so at least one positive thing :innocent:

Without any Bach, Mahler, Wagner and countless others then this list is modern rubbish. Style over substance

blackness in lieu of bohemia

thanks for saving me the trouble of :D reading this

I made a couple of comments too, as, er, Derek.

So I have my shortlist of 17 Goff tunes. :P Pista

This was you?
Can you play to your strengths and go back to discussing Pete Doherty's hats please?
 :notworthy:

I didn't even click that we could post comments until now.

I do like this though

They moderate them?
I dread to think what Steve Earl Goth's post said before they moderated it.
Cheers.

It was me. I remember making a posting on another music forum about 2005 called "Oh NME where did it all go wrong?" after idly browsing a copy of the mag. like a music version of Heat for those with candyfloss for frontal lobes.

You sure it doesn't have anything to do with vampires? I mean, I generally think that vampires ought to be vilified, ridiculed and ignored. I mean, they're the living dead for Christ's sake! You know your neighborhood is shot once they move in.

So here's my promise: If enough of you post your own Top 20 lists as a comment below (say, at least 20), I'll aggregate them and post a *new* greatest goth tracks list, based on your choices. How's that?
Come on then heartlanders. What should this list look like then? Try and give some mention to some post 1980's bands, that's what the NME has always tried to boycott afterall!

I tried. I failed.

Then I remembered that post-80s goth is actually legitimately s**t, and went off to listen to the true successors, which included Tindersticks, Portishead, and even some Pulp. Gulp.

Luke Lewis, IMO, has nothing to do with Goth and he is not able to judge.

if Rosetta Stone, or Fields Of The Nephilim, or The m*****n are not mentioned in the top 20 goth songs.....well, it's not a top 20 goth songs

Mini PiB generally sneers at post 80’s goth, but tracks that get her attention include:

Orbital ~ Satan
Sneaker Pimps ~ Long hard road out of hell
Moby ~ New dawn fades (which she asserts is better than the original)
Girls Aloud ~ sound of the underground
Sugababes~ ugly

But then, mini PiB is probably an EMO

For me: little mention, if any, of the Furs, or JAMC [Darklands period?]

DJ Bobo is the best post-80s goth band.
