The Cure released "Three Imaginary Boys" in 1979. So technically not an 80's band. But else I agree with you, psichonaut, the best 3 Cure albums were published in the 80's.
Another serious candidate, though probably none of you knows them:
Shiny Gnomes

Best band ever to come from Nürnberg. Very influential to the German Indie scene in the late 80's.

Human League = 70's! Anything they released in the 80's was Dire ( see what I did there?)
Iron Maiden and Metallica are both absolute s**t.

In no particular order: Band of Holy Joy; Half Man Half Biscuit (even better these days!) And Also the Trees (still great) and Ultravox (with the exception of the last album).

In Germany, we had
Ideal, which were quite ok
and also bands like
Einstürzende Neubauten
Die Tödliche Doris
only for example

Hell, the home of Heino is the
ZDF-Hitparade ...
... I actually preferred
Disco ... they showed at least Kiss and Alvin Stardust there ...
while anyway,
Beat Club and
Musikladen were not allowed on parental TV ... too much skin ...
But this is all rather 70ies ... just like
...
...
Good heavens, you know things I've never even heard of ....

Human League Travelogue was released in 1980 as was the Holiday '80 EP
And Dare is absolutely wonderful
