yeah, the flyer was just for the HL meet-up part of the weekend.

the subculture would have been the smurphs gig the next next (or maybe the night before)

2006 - Winter in July @ The George

2007 - School's Out @ Santiagos

Some of the weekends have coincided with Smurphs gigs at The Bassment aka Subculture, which was also under the Merrion Centre, but on the side of the centre, around the corner from the Phono

I'm confused now because I thought the last time I saw TSOM were 2001. Can't be right because I travelled up to Leeds with Jan and met up with a few others and saw TSOM. Confused now what year? This is embarrassing I remember I stayed at The Marriot hotel, but I can't recall what tour? Help!!

Quiff Boy wrote:Dominion used to be for all fans (but technology like emails and mailing lists were pretty niche then), then became used only by hardcore fans, and ended up mainly just being used by a small number of the travelling fans.

Heartland started in 2001 as a more accessible community who were not averse to noobs rocking up with the same old beginners/101 questions, or discussing their favourite sort of cheesecake (forest fruits btw).

Also, the 'web' format of heartland meant that previous discussions were easer for people to find, and that the site as a whole was easier to find, sign up to and get involved with.

We also promoted conversation on subjects other than The Sisters, which at the time was (vehemently) discouraged on Dominion.

I conceived of the forum as something to compliment the mailing list. However, people's tastes and tech needs change and we found ourselves more popular (and more discoverable) than the mailing list :(

We have also always suffered from the band's quiet spells. But where as we had other stuff to talk about during those lulls, the mailing list did not and, to put it bluntly, it began to die off...

It's a shame as it was a great resource at it's peak, but people have different expectations of the web these days. In the same was as forums were easier to sign up to and use than email lists by 2001, Facebook is now easier to sign up to and use than both us and Dominion.

Hey ho.

We just keep on keeping on.

A couple of major things we do have over Facebook is that 1) you don't need to sell your soul to a social network to see our content, and 2) we have more quality control over what information is circulated, and better moderators who can ensure we don't get inundated with trolls and f**kwits.
FWIW I use both the closed FB group and this forum, but in different ways, so I would like to see both continue and I am very grateful to all the hard work done by the mods and admins of both groups. This forum is easier to navigate and find things in than FB because posts are organised by topic.

I use the closed FB group rather than any of the open pages or groups, otherwise everyone on my friends list sees everything I comment on or like. Most of my FB friends don't share my fangirldom and are not the slightest bit interested in whether I like someone's video clip or photo or thought the sound at a gig wasn't quite right or whatever, so using the closed groups keeps it off the newsfeeds of my elderly aunts on FB who aren't interested.

HL... myheartland was and will always be a place where the people were who loved the sisters. a kind of internet family where there was so much shared and a caring for each other that came from the heart. like in all families there were differences, disputes, the raving mad uncle or aunty but also the loving, listening ear, the ones we could count on if only it be here. obviously people come and go and maybe the allure of other cyber sites change things and we grow older and wiser but the jest of what makes HL an amazung place will never change until we are all passed.
yes the music, the band, this gig that gig, this era that era, still ... the sisters gave us something along the way that touched us somehow in our lives that brought us here.
this is a beautiful home for many reasons that we should be grateful for.
don't forget that as life is too short and too many friendships have been made within these walls thanks to Barry and all the mods :notworthy: :notworthy: y
