The Sisters of Mercy biography commissioned

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Exactly what I was thinking.
The Unbound HQ is in London AFAIK.
That's 1100 km from Berlin & 460 km from Paris.
I would dearly love the hard back, but those shipping prices look really off to me.

To me it started to look like territories that The Girls frequented most benefit, i.e. UK, Germany, Holland, but Belgium thwarts this logic.

Do you have any friends or family in the UK that could maybe order it for you....? Such a shame if you miss out :(

I do, but I don't want to impose.
Besides, the Black November thing won't be open to them.
So unless shipping to all of Europe is as favourably priced as shipping to Germany, I'm afraid I'm out. :(
Cheers.

Steve, pop it on your Christmas list or maybe someone fancies sharing the Gift option. Then again maybe there could be a free Heartland review copy.

Nice idea Chris, but me & xmas don't mingle.
Besides, I wouldn't really want anyone else to get stiffed by a shipping company.
Cheers.

Black November is open to all who hear about it. I've only put messages in two FB Groups and here so far. But if the info was passed on to friends not in those FB Groups or HL ... that could work. If that's not possible, I hope you might consider the Digital Only package that went live today. Or the eBook maybe?

That's the thing though. I don't want something I have to read on the pooter. I am happy to pony up the 20 notes for the work you put into making it but not get shafted by a courier for half the price of the book. Especially when I see it can be shipped to Germany (same continent) for a song. Sorry. That's just wrong. :(
Cheers.

To be fair, that's what the couriers are charging, not the author or the publisher's decision. I've had similar issues with shipping artwork outside the UK. The couriers might have a branch in Germany that make it cheaper to ship there, but have to hand over to a third party (and hence take on additional costs) in other European companies.

@pista - I'm more than happy to take delivery of a copy for you at UK shipping (PM me for my postal address) and we can work out how to get it to you by other means.

Pista I can also get it for you if you want. I'll have it shipped to NL. I go to Hungary often enough I can hand it over, let me know.

As per the message in the 80-85 FB Group: when we get to 25% funded, I will post an update on the Unbound page. This will be in the form of a little sample from the book. One of my favourite stories unearthed during research involves a hibernating snake. Just had it confirmed by a second person. So I'll put that up.
Black November ends tomorrow ...

So you seem to be looking for 600-700 backers to reach your goal? Seems a bit optimistic to me :? Any time limit?

as i'm terminally skint the only way i'd be able to contribute to the funding aspect (dont know why they call it pledging if you pay upfront) is if it goes on longer than i'm sure anyone wants it too. also, with these crowdfunded affiars it seems terribly difficult to buy the item if you dont pay upfront. with that in mind, what is the hoped for print run? i dont believe it says on the unbound page (if it does i cant find it).

And I knew the words to every song.

We have decided to extend Black November .... as Black December, which will run until 31st December - same deal on the hardback. I'm about to post something in Leeds FB Groups (Leeds Music Past and Present, Warehouse, Phono and F Club). Since "Paint My Name ..." and "White Rose Babylon" are stuffed with Leeds stories, we'd like those good people to have a deal too. Still applies for Sisters fans who hear about it via Heartland and their FB Groups too ...

Here is the publisher's reply:

"Once someone has pledged, they can change the name that will appear in the back of the book via their Account Dashboard and put someone else's name"

I think the subtle clue might have been in the word Christmas. So far the hardcore takeup is slow so maybe time to hit related tribes like The Mish and Cure places, damn me for saying Mish haha x

"... Black Christmas" is the same. Just Black December is the extended one. That info will go out to four Leeds FB Groups this week.
