Hehe, I remember the old testcard, the crummy Anglia plastic man on a horse, and I've got all of Bewitched on video somewhere.
Dave R wrote:THE FLASHING BLADE
LOL! I vaguely remember that.
Wasn't the dubbing slightly suspect, like they were deliberately taking the p!ss?
Burn wrote:i remember the playschool toys...but not their names
Big Ted, Little Ted, Humpty, Jemima, Hamble.
As a kid I seem to remember thinking that Hamble probably smelt of poo.
Dark wrote:Also, I'm watching old downloaded episodes of the original Twilight Zone. Is this me being old, or sad?
Where did you get them from. I've got an almost full set but two episodes never get shown. ("The Encounter" & "An occurrence at owl creek bridge")
elamanamou wrote:Captain Pugwash was also a fav with Master Bates!
An urban myth. It was Master Mate.
There was no Seaman Stains either. The other guy was called Barnabus.
Oh, and the cabin boy was Tom, not Roger.

Oh, that made me thing of Barnaby, voiced by Derek Griffiths, and he also did something called Ring A Ding.
Oh, and something called Issi Noho about some creature who lived in a cardboard box and got his name from the partially obscured writing on the box (This side up. No Hooks).
Mary Mungo And Midge, voiced by a newsreader dude, someone like Richard Baker.
Paperplay (a woman with two spider hand puppets.)
And the schools programmes. Picture Box, with a rather scary theme tune is one I remember.
And who can forget the best saturday morning childrens programme ever, TISWAS.

Yes, I loved that tune and I'm still looking for a copy! Ditto for most other theme tunes by Ron Grainer, Alan Parker and anything else done in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. :notworthy:

Well being a child of the eighties, born in 76, my fondest memories are of trap door for some reason... (no wonder I turned to drugs later in life..)

Though given half my families from Somerset I think I may have developed some kind of affinity with Burk...

I like the Black Beauty theme as well but ever since it featured on Alan Partridge, it reminds me too much of him. Britain did great public information films in the 70s, the fire prevention ones being particularly scary. They were mainly animated and with a very authoritative, apocalyptic tone - Patrick Allen maybe - I suspect he did a lot of the voicework for PI films in the 70s. Incidentally, Protect & Survive is now availabe on DVD at amazon. :) I've been hunting for a copy of this for years.

:notworthy: respect geezer :notworthy: -i'ld completely forgotten about issie noho and i used to f**king love that programme!he was a panda who got himself into and out of trouble by using "magic squares" to cast spells;the effects of which were randomly unpredictable.it wasnt even proper animation, just a series of sequential stills(with the exception of a moving spiral to indicate a spell being cast). p.s.late on this topic as just got back from a week in prague...repeat after me"and you wont make me jealous"
