Yes, he's a predictable choice for favourite Doctor but he is mine too. His autobiography is well worth a read. Made me laugh out loud on the train many times.

i met him at a book signing for his autobiography. I was about 14 and just remember how upsettingly tall he was

I spotted Tom Baker in Brighton just before Christmas - think he must live around here

Oddly enough I am the same height at (Sir) Tom Baker 6'4" - Then again Douglas Adams was also 6'4". And Douglas Adams wrote "Shada"!

John Cleese too...
I seem to remember a quote about Graham Chapman being 6'3, and therefore 10% less funny than Cleese and Adams.
Still think it was a shame about Shada - it's a classic, even in it's incomplete state.

as i've mentioned elsewhere, if were being cynical (:!:) i would say it was a deliberate ploy by the beeb to get a big, credible name celeb in for the series launch, then replace him with "Casanova star David Tennant" once its got its initial hype out of the way...

I fear QB may be right , I was reading the paper over someones shoulder this morning on the train and noticed a headline saying Ecclestone has said he wont do another series after this one. Gutted.

I am also looking forward to listening and then buying the radio series of books 4 and 5. The 4th book is for sale on Play.com - release date 25/05/05.

As for the movie, having seen many of the trailers and tv spots I am sure it will be great. Remember Douglas Adams did write the first draft of the Movie screenplay so it cant be THAT Bad!

Tonight's episode was the best so far.
I suppose the point always to keep in mind is that it always was and always will be a children's television programme.
Reckon they will have done a pretty fine job of resurrecting the series by episode 13.

All I know is that it's 4 episodes for book 4 and another 4 for book 5. The original plans were to broadcast all 8 consecutively over 8 weeks but dates had to be put back when D*sney stook their oar in and delayed the broadcast of series 3.
The bbc site says that something Hitchhikers will be starting on 3rd May, but as nothing has been announced so far it's probably a repeat as a teaser for series 4 and 5 starting later in the year.

Yes, it can be that bad. If you read the review on the page I linked (the long version of the review has spoilers but the short version doesn't) it basically explains how most of the classic lines have been deleted or rewritten, and how major parts of the plot have been edited/changed in order to make a total nonsense out of the plot. It sounds horrible. I won't be going to see it.


Erm, going back on topic of this thread, I enjoyed episode 3 of Dr Who, in fact I've enjoyed all 3 so far.

Never mind that "Friday feeling", to paraphrase Mark Gatiss, I've got the Saturday tea-time feeling all over again

The only mis-giving I've got really is that the storylines are a little bit too, well, short. There seems to be throwaway lines that could mean everything or nothing. Maybe they'll build on them later in the series?

That Dr. Who Confidential thingie on Beeb 3 is quite entertaining too
